Article IV Section 3
-Admission of new states to the Union. Has to be approved by a majority of both House and President -Northwest Ordinance states were admitted to the Union on an equal political basis with the original states -New states cannot be formed out of the territory of other states without their consent, as well as the approval of Congress. -Congress has legislative power over all US property and territory.
Article IV Section 1
-Full Faith and Credit Clause, requires states to respect one another's civil laws, records, and court rulings. Ex: same sex marriage or civil union performed in another state.
Article IV Section 4
-Guarantee Clause which says that the US will ensure that every state has a republican form of government. -republic is a government which derives all its powers directly or indirectly from the great body of the people. -Federal gov. would protect states against invasions or domestic violence, upon request.
Article IV Section 2
-Privileges and Immunities Clause, prohibits states from discriminating against citizens of other states without justification. -States allowed to charge higher tuition to out of stature students, because local citizens have paid taxes to support public universities. -Fugitive Slave Clause allowed slaveholders to their agents to go into free states to capture escaped slaves.
Extradition
the surrender by one state to another of a person accused or convicted of a crime in the other state.
