What characterizes a good teller from your point of view?

A good teller has knowledge of the bank, genuinely strong communication skills, knows how to handle money, and enjoys serving clients.

How could you convince a customer to become a client of this bank?

First, I would develop a friendly relationship with them. In the case of my previous job, I had a goal to convince families to come to the pool I lifeguard at rather than the other one. Sales are about relations. As soon as I gain the prospects trust, it will be easier to sell them our products. I understand the importance of seeing things from their perspective. At my pool, I understood parents with children desired a smooth transition from setting up their things to getting the kids in the pool. To help them, I always had umbrellas opened, tables cleaned, and chairs propped up to make this transition easy for them. I can apply this same logic to communicating genuine care to the prospect.

What are your strengths?

I am very organized. It is a natural habit of mine to design things to be efficient and organized. For example, as a lifeguard, I made sure to have my water bottle, whistle, mouth barrier, sandals, and sunscreen with me at my stand.

Why should we hire you?

I have great communication skills, can count money, and genuinely enjoy providing high-quality costumer service. Also, I am very willing to learn and always strive to do my best. If you hire me, you will get a hard working employee that strives to make your bank stand out.

Give an example of you dealing with an irate customer and what you did to fix the problem?

I have not dealt with customers. However, I have dealt with residents as a pool manager. One such situation involved a man who did not have a pass to be at the pool. Typically, I would give some leeway the first month the pool is open because I understood how difficult it is to get the pass. However, it was late in the season and I had not seen this man before. He quickly grew agitated as I calmly communicated the pool rule for member to provide proof of residence with their pass. Despite his escalating demeanor, I remained calm, professional, and in control. A few days later, he returned and I checked his pass as I normally did any other person. He had his pass.

Have you ever worked in a bank before?

I have not worked in a bank before. However, I have worked as a business analyst and assistant for my parents company, Blue Canyon Services. I learned to balance and pay close attention to cash amounts. Also, as a pool manager and lifeguard, I excelled at interacting positively with pool residents. I understood how to create a welcoming atmosphere that was enjoyable for all families. These skills are transferable as a bank teller. In addition, I have handled my own finances since I was 18. This adheres to my money handling experience.

Talk about a successful sales experience.

I have not worked in sales. However, I had to use my sales skills when my friend was trying to decide if he should buy a video game. Having had experience and knowledge with said video game, I used what I knew about him (what he looks for in a game) and integrated it with my knowledge of the video game. I shared many positives and mentioned brief cons and followed with a positive about it.

What are your weaknesses?

I like to get things right. When something is off, I want to fix it. This, however, is actually a positive quality when it comes to a bank teller job. When I'm counting money, I'll double check it to make sure I am giving the correct amount. When balancing, if I am off, I will do everything in my power to figure out what was miscounted.

Why do you want to become a bank teller?

I love to work with customers and help serve others in any way I can. Also, I have strong math skills and feel I would be competent in fulfilling the duties of a bank teller. I have been responsible for my own finances since I was 18. Therefore, I believe I have what it takes.

Give an example of a time you made a point to go above and beyond with customer service,

At a pool I worked at, there was a family that had recently moved to the United States from Jordan. They did not have a pool pass. Most lifeguards would simply say, "I can't let you in since you don't have a pass." I did the opposite. I went above and beyond by showing them the HOA presidents office. Then, I looked at the office hours and got the office phone information. Afterwards, they promised next time they would have their passes. I decided to trust them and let them swim that day. They followed through with their promise.

Why did you choose our bank?

I chose your bank because of your personal approach to banking. Having been a pool manager and lifeguard, I understand the importance of the customer being at the center of what I do. From my 1st year to my 4th year as a pool manager, I always strived to remember residents names. I thought from the perspective of the resident and provided excellent pool maintenance (ex. vacuuming, trash, table cleaning, bathroom cleaning, etc.). There wasn't one day when I did not put the resident first. Residents were the same as customers to me. That's why I chose your bank because you put the customer first.

What banking products do you personally use and why?

I use a checking account, savings account, debit card, and credit card. The checking account is to help with making deposits, withdrawals, and writing checks. The debit card is to focus on using cash, rather than relying heavily on credit. The credit card is meant to be used in moderation. Once I use it, I pay it off right away. The savings count is used to earn interest.

This job can be repetitive. What would motivate you to do it well every day?

The way I motivate myself to do any repetitive job well is to discover the most efficient ways to complete tasks. For example, lifeguarding was fairly repetitive. I motivated myself by seeing how quickly I could get my morning tasks done in the 15 minutes I was allotted. I had to determine what tasks had to get done before residents entered the pool. Then, I tried various ways of completing said tasks in the quickest way (ex. Leaving bag at gate, get key, clock in, unlock bathroom doors, use lunch box to keep gate from closing, put key away, put on sunscreen, put on uniform accessories, grab chemicals and items to be near stand, check chemicals, record chemical results, empty skimmer baskets and pick up obvious trash around pool, clean tables, make phone call to supervisor if chemicals off or to report closing guard duties not done correctly, skim surface of water with net, prepare vacuum and put in water, vacuum pool, etc.)
