Bunker Hill
1775- A battle that took place on the strategic point of Breed's Hill. British victory on account of the depletion of American supplies. Yet this battle gave them confidence and proved that the colonists could stand up to the most powerful country in the world. It pushed Americans towards a final decision for war.
Trenton
1776- George Washington led his troops to surprise the Hessians during this battle. This proved that Washington was better than the British thought.
Saratoga
1777- This battle was the turning point of the war because it convinced France and Spain to aid the colonies.The French had supplies, men, and a NAVY.

1779- Colonists gained control of Ohio Valley and prevented British attack from the West.
Camden
1780- British victory. Gates poor decision to fight with weak soldieers and not plaing his troops properly led to his loss of command. Low patriot spirits.

1780- Patriot victory. Proved Americans had mastered formal battle tactics.

1780- battle in South Carolina where Patriots defeated Loyalist; 1st major British loss in the South and a turning point in the war; many neutral citizens swung over to patriot side and there was increased dislike of the British.

1781- Costly British victory. Cornwallis retreated to Wilmington; realized the Southern strategy had failed.

1781- The British had to surrender because they were low on ammunition, food, and troops.
