#2 Compare and contrast the kingdoms Archaebacteria and Eubacteria.

Archaebacteria: Prokaryotic Various kinds of lipids no peptidocglycan extreme and nonextreme environs contains introns and other similarities to eukaryotic cells;also similarities to eubacteria genes. Eubacteria: Prokaryotic lipids different from archaebacteria contains peptidocglycan nonextreme environs no introns; disctinctly different from eukaryotic cells.

#7 List several ways bacteria are used in industry.

Bacteria is used in foods and is found in objects.

#1 Describe asexual reproduction in bacteria.

Bacteria reproduce through a simple binary fission (a method of asexual reproduction where the nuclear material is copied and the parent cell divides into two equal cells).

#2 Describe two methods that bacteria use to survive periods of unfavorable conditions.

During mildly unfavorable conditions, bacteria decrease their metabolic activities and wait for the return of favorable conditions. During long periods of unfavorable conditions some bacteria are capable of forming endospores (a resistant asexual spore that develops inside some bacteria cells) in order to survive.

#8 What are two common methods of bacterial movement.

One of the most common bacterial movements occurs by the use of appendages called flagella. Bacteria that do not have flagella move by vibrating back and forth as water molecules bump into them.

#4 List several difference between bacterial photosynthesis and photosynthesis in plants.

Plant photosynthesis produces oxygen, but bacteria photosynthesis does not. Plants use water and carbon dioxide to conduct photosynthesis, but except for cyanobacteria, photosynthetic bacteria cannot process water.

#4 Describe the cellular structures of bacteria.

The cellular structures of bacteria are that it has a capsule and it looks like gummy complex of carbs.

#3 What are the common cellular shapes and colonies of bacteria?

The common cellular shapes and colonies of bacteria are coccus, bacillus and spirillum.

#7 When culturing a particular bacterium, what conditions must be considered to have it survive and grow?

The conditions that must be considered include: moisture, temperature, pH, and nutrition.

#1 What is the primary function of bacteria in nature?

The primary function of bacteria in nature is decomposer organisms.

#5 What is the primary reason the cyanobacteria were reclassified from algae to bacteria?

The primary reason was because cyanobacteria are prokaryotic.

#3 Describe three methods of genetic transfer in bacteria.

The three methods of genetic transfer in bacteria are Transformation, Transduction, and Conjugation. Transformation is the genetic change that occurs when DNA from one bacterium is taken up through the membrane of another bacterium. Transduction is the transfer of genetic material from one bacterium to another by a virus called a bacteriophage that attaches to bacteria. Conjugation is the temporary union (joining) of two organisms or cells for the one-way transfer of genetic material.

#8 What are the two basic methods of controlling food-spoiling bacteria? List several household or commercial practices and tell how they illustrate these methods?

The two basic methods of controlling foodspoiling bacteria is destroy the bacteria present and place it in a good enviroment. Canning, salt-curing quick-freezing. they are used for keeping the items clean and sometimes it can turn the items bad.

#5 List the two types of autotrphic and the two types of heterotrophic bacteria.

Two types of autotrophic bacteria is photosynthetic and chemosynthetic. Two types of heterotrophic are parasitic and saprophytic.
