Biology Unit 6 test review(cell cycle,mitosis,meiosis, & cancer)
What is a haploid cell?
1/2 from the parents; mesiosis produce it
What is cancer?
A disorder in which body cell lose the ability to control cell growth
What is apoptosis?
A process programmed cell death
What's the difference between asexual and sexual reproduction?
Asexual-one parent;look actually as parent Sexual-two parents;look different from parents
What happens in anaphase?
Centimetre are pulled apart; chromatid separate and becomes individual chromosomes; chromosome separate into 2 groups near the spindle
What happens in metaphase?
Chromosomes line up across the center of the cell;spindle fibers connect the centromere of each chromosome to the two pole of the spindle
What happens in telophase?
Chromosomes spread out; a nuclear envelope re-form; the spindle breaks apart nucleolus becomes visible in each daughter nucleus
Name the phases of the cell cycle and what the cell does in each phase?
G1-cell growth S-DNA replication G2-preparation for division M-mitosis(cell division)
Chromosome
Genetic information(DNA)that is passed from one generation of cell to the next
What is asexual reproduction?
Genetically identical offspring from a single parent
What happens in the cell cycle?
Grow,divide
What is sexual reproduction?
Have two parents and inheriting genetic information
What is the difference between animal and plant cytokinesis?
Animal-form a clevage furrow and then pinched off until separated Plant-cell plate form between 2 cell & becomes a new cell wall to separate the cell
Where in the cell cycle does mitosis occur?
M
Spindles
Microtubules fibers that pull apart chromatids
What is the definition of meiosis?
Process in which the number of chromosome per cell is cut in half through the separation of homologous chromosome in diploid cell
What are the phases in mitosis?
Prophase Metaphase Analyses Telophase
What is a diploid cell?
Same number as parents(2N); mitosis produce it
What happens in prophase?
The chromosomes become visible;the centrioles move to opposite sides;the spindle forms;nucleolus disappears & nuclear envelope breaks down
What is cytokinesis?
The final step in cell division and completely separates the two daughter cells from each other
What is the cell cycle?
The life of the cell where the grow and divide
What is mitosis?
The phase of the cell cycle where cell division occur
What is the goal of meiosis?
To produce offspring that are genetically different from the parent
Chromatids
Individual strand from a pair of chromosomes
Centrioles
Structure that organizes the spindles
Centromere
The are where the chromatic are connected together
