Contour lines

---------- are solid or dashed lines showing the elevation of the earth on civil drawings.

Section Drawing

A cross sectional view that shows the inside of an object or building.

Hidden Line

A dashed line type that shows interior detail not visible from the outside of the part.

Title Block

A part of a drawing sheet that includes some general information about the project.

Computer aided drafting (CAD)

Almost all construction drawings today are made by this...

Engineer

Applies scientific principles in design and construction.

Engineer's Scale

Can be used when an area is to large to be represented by the usual scale.

Legend

Defines the symbols used in architectural plans.

Architectural Plans

Drawings that show the design of the project including many parts such as: roof plan, floor plan, elevation drawing, and section drawings.

Request for Information (RFI)

If a discrepancy is noted within the plans then a ------------- will be written up, explaining the problem and noting the date and time.

Leader

In drafting, an arrowhead is placed on a --------- in order to identify an object.

Isometric drawing

Let's you see an object as it really is, rather than as a flat, two-dimensional view.

Heating, Venelating, Air conditioning(HVAC)

Piping system plans for gas, oil, and steam heat may be included in the ------- plan.

Plumbing

Refers to both water supply and all liquid waste disposal

Piping and Instrumentation drawing (P&IDs)

Schematic drawings called ----------- show all the equipment, pipe lines, valves, instruments, and controls needed to operate a piping system.

Foundation plan

Shows the lowest level of the building.

Roof Plan

Shows the shape of the roof and the materials that will be used to finish it.

Elevation drawing

Side view of a building or object, showing height and width.

Beam

Structural plans may show this large, horizontal support made of concrete, steel, stone, or wood.

scale

Tells the size of the object drawn, compared with the actual size of the objects represented.

Dimension Line

Thin line with arrowheads at each end, with measurements written near the middle of the line.

Dimensions

To do accurate work, you need to know whether the ------- measure to the exterior or interior of the objects.

Blueprints

Together with the set of specifications, detail what is to be built and what materials to be used.

Metric Scale

Used to draw or measure lines on a blueprint, is divided into centimeters, which are divided into 10 millimeters, or 20 half-millimeters.

Specifications

Written statement provided by the architectural and engineering firm to define the quality of work to be done and to describe the materials to be used.

Elevation (EL)

an element of architectural drawings that refers to the height above sea level or other defined surface

Mechanical plans

are engineered plans for motors, pumps, piping systems, and piping equipment

Structural plans

are used to support the architectural design. They include the general notes, a foundation plan, a roof framing plan, and structural section drawings

Civil plans

drawing that the locations of the building on the site from the areal view, including contours, trees, construction features.

Electrical plans

engineered drawings for electrical supply and distribution, include locations of the electric meter, switchgear, and convenience outlets

Schematic

is a one-line drawing showing the flow path for electrical circuitry.

Floor plan

is an aerial view of the layout of each room on a blueprint.

Architect's Scale

is divided into feet and inches and is used on all plans other than site plans.

Symbols

is used on a drawing to tell what material is required for that part of the project.

Architect

person who designs and makes plans for buildings

Plumbing plans

show the layout for the plumbing system that supplies hot and cold water, for the sewage disposal system, and for the location of plumbing fixtures
