However, they are also in the position to receive more criticism. Many people don't see leaders contributing, but leaders also provide valuable aspects to the project such as making deadlines are met and overseeing the entire project. A good leader will not only direct their team, but also provide praise where it is due. If a leader does not contribute to the group and takes all the credit then it obviously would not be very fair.

If the wifi network was being used inappropriately, then other individuals could have access to data that they are not allowed to have.

#1 I would ask the mother if she had other sources besides on tv where she heard that and if she has had the chance to do further research. As a parent it is ultimately their decision, but I would them my professional opinion and research on the topic. Important questions to ask the mother could be what concerns her the most and address those concerns. For example, if autism from vaccines was her biggest concern then you could explain the extensive research that has done that shows no correlation. It is important to identify each of her concerns so can feel reassured to get vaccines. #2 As a physician, they should be honest but caring when they approach these patients. It is important to recognize that what they hear in the media can be very scary as a parent, and understand that they just want to do what is best for their children. After expressing this then it is my job as a medical professional to present the most up to date research on the subject and scientific evidence encourage their decision based on that. It is also my duty to present the benefits of vaccines and any potential risks. #3 Effective communication should be delivered from the physicians to their patients. It would be especially helpful if providers educated their patients on proper and preventative healthcare while also treating them. Social media could also help educate as that is used so frequently in society.

They should let individuals know the harmful effects that cyberbullying has on people, and that it is necessary to report when one has seen it. Also, it is important to confront the person that is doing the cyberbullying in person. By speaking to them one on one, it is easier to resolve conflict as well as let the other person know their feelings and concerns. If the person continues to cyberbully, then it is necessary for individuals to report it to adults who can take more serious measures.

A personal crisis I navigated was when the COVID-19 pandemic began. While I wanted to stay home and keep my family safe, I also knew that I provided an essential service to keep people's pets healthy.

As a healthcare professional, it is my obligation to act ethically and responsibly. As a result, I would talk to the colleague first and encourage him to tell the supervisor and stop his behavior and explain the consequences. If not, then I would refer him to a disciplinary council regardless of the impact it could have on our relationship.

Briefly describe a time when you hesitated or chose not to help someone. What were the reasons behind your dilemma?

As a veterinary technician, I am still working during the pandemic. One time, I was picking up a pet from the owner outside our clinic. When I received the pet's leash, I was in the middle of explaining the exam procedure when the elderly owner dropped his phone. My initial instinct was to bend down and help the owner retrieve his phone; however, in light of COVID-19, I hesitated and chose not to help in order to limit contact to potentially contaminated surfaces. Although this decision felt unnatural, I believe I made the right decision to protect the team of healthcare professionals I work with, and this will in turn protect our clients.

At this point, I need to remain objective, non-judgemental and not jump to any premature conclusions based on the primary observations made. I do not want to make the assumption that my colleague is being irresposible and unprofessional by drinking alcohol while accepting an assignment. It could very well turn out that my collegue looks like he is drinking an alcoholic drink, but it could be non- alcoholic beer. Or since I did not hear the complete conversation on the phone, it could turn out that the colleague said yes to an assignment that could be tomorrow or a few days from now. However, it could also turn out that my colleague was drinking and did accept a near assignment. Thus for these reasons, I will discuss the matter privately with my colleague in a non-accusatory manner to gain more information as I am concerned about the well being and safety of all those involved, most importantly, the potential passengers.

At work we were trying to come up with a new filing and organizational system for our patients. My supervisor had an idea that she thought would be best, but I had my concerns and did not fully agree with her. I decided to approach her privately and ask her more about her approach so I could gain a better understanding of why she thought her idea would be best. I explained my rationale for my concerns and a few suggestions I had. As a result, we were able to come up with a new and improved filing system through our collaboration and communication.

Both the student and the teacher are responsible for this failure. Students have the responsibility to manage their studies and to seek help if they need it. Teachers have the responsibility to teach their students and should understand that each student has their own unique learning style, so lower-performing students should be taught in a manner that best brings out their potential. Thus, a failure on a test is both the student's and the teacher's fault.

Due to the nature of the relationship between a professor and student, I believe it is not okay to have a personal relationship as it is a conflict of interest. Regardless of if you knew a stsudent beforehand, it is essentail to keep the relationship professonial during the course of the class. if it becoems personal This type of relationship can result in abuses of power creating harm to both the student and the professor. It could potentially harm and defame the university as well as hurt families involved. First I do not want to jump to any conclusions until I gather more information. The patient could be experiencing excruciating pain and it might be unbearable to answer questions at that moment. However, the patient could also be addicted to pain medication and experiencing withdrawal. As a physician, I need to gain more information so I can understand how best to help.

First I would approach Jim and express gratitude and explain that he is doing great as an instructor. I would then explain the concern about the BO delicately. I would explain that I understand where he is coming from that it is difficult for him as he has a second job and there are no showers. I would then ask if he had any immediate ideas for the problem, perhaps putting on a new shirt before the class. First off, everyone is entitled to what kind of provider they want to see. I would tell them what a PA is and that I work together with the physician to give the best possible care. I would also tell them about my education. If they still insist on seeing a physician, I would thank them for listening ot me, and have them see the physician. If the patient isn't comfortable with the provider or doesn't trust them, then we are not giving them the best possible care.

A friend in your class tells you his mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. He is overwhelmed by his studies and may drop out of the program to spend time with his mother. How do you counsel your friend?

First, I would express how sorry I was and let them know that I am always there for him. I would then tell him that I believe he should stay in the program because he has already worked so hard for this. I would tell him that our class is there for him and will help him in any way that he can and won't let him get behind. I would also remind him of why he wants to be a doctor- maybe its bc he wants to give best possible care- something that he wants his mom to have.

Q2. If you were the doctor's supervisor and found out about it, what would you do?

First, I would express understanding that I know the doctor is concerned about her patient. However, I would also explain the role as doctors - that we have to respect patient confidentiality and autonomy. I would then discuss the risks of her violating this which could include the loss of her license as well as mine and the potential risk of defaming the hospital. It could also have a negative impact on the patient and their family. I would say to be more careful in the future and that if it happened again there would be more serious consequences. I would encourage her to bring the patient in and ask for permission to have a discussion with the family as a patient's support system is very important. I would ask her why she felt it necessary to have the conversation, and if the patient or family had any complaints. The patient's support network is very important, filling in all that the clinical setting cannot provide, so I understand why it is best to have it engaged. However, even though a minor violation, it is one that could be avoided. I would ask her to ask the patient first next time, offering to speak with all of them together, maybe even in an informal off-site environment, to voice her concerns and give them an opportunity to start a dialogue regarding his future care options. Since there is no pressing medical need, this seems to be the better alternative, respecting his full privacy while encouraging his family to get more aware and involved. This should be the standard procedure when the doctor has such concerns.

You learn that one of your patients, a 35 year old man, is positive for the HIV virus. He has not yet developed AIDS. He asks you not to tell his wife because he is afraid that it would break up his marriage. The man's wife is your patient too. What should you do?

First, I would give the patient a little time to cope with the news. He could be in shock and not thinking through the situation clearly. If he was still unwilling to tell his wife, then I would spend time strongly encouraging him to do so. I would explain the risks associated with not telling her. I would inform the man of my conflicting duties to protect the confidentiality of his test result AND to inform his wife. This would be a way to have a dialogue with the man about the issues, and to find out his reasons for not wanting to tell his wife. Lastly, if all of those were exhausted and the patient was still unwilling to tell his wife, then I would let him know that I will have to inform her because her health poses a potentially lethal risk.

Do you get frustrated or angry?

Frustration and anger are natural emotions that every individual experiences. However, the way people handle their emotions differ. When I feel frustration or anger, I step back and ask myself questions to calm down and think through the situation. By doing so, I am able to better formulate a strategy to address the issue I am facing.

Should it be the patients or the doctor's right to make the decison?

I believe that it should be both the doctor and the patients decision. As the doctor, they should talk about the patient's concerns to see if they can work it out. should as they know the patients history and have been trained medically. Though it is important to respect a patients wishes, patients can sometimes make rash decisions when in pain or depressed which often happens with a terminal illness. As a result, I believe it is best to have a doctor make a descion based on all the evidence and the patients wishes. However, if the patient still decides that they want it then they could find a doctor who will do it.

What quality or personality trait is most important in the veterinary profession?

I believe that you should look for candidates that are empathetic. While good grades and gpa are important, I think it is even more important to look for individuals who can understand patients and what they are going through. To be able to get down on their level, and put themselves in their shoes. Though we might not have gone through exactly what they are going through, we have all felt disappointed or scared (or whatever they are feeling), and apply that to the situation. I believe that great health care stems from empathy.

Describe a disappointment from your life.

I once applied for a veterinary technician position at a veterinary emergency hospital. However, after a month had passed with no response, I sent a follow-up email to inquire about my initial email. After another two weeks, I showed up to the clinic in person to deliver my resume, but again I received no response. I was disappointed that I did not receive even a rejection notification, however, I took this as a learning experience to better myself so that I can be a more competitive applicant in the future.

Describe a situation you have had with a difficult patient.

I once had a older-male patient who was inappropriate around the female technicians at my physical therapy clinic. I confronted my boss about it and told him my concerns and that I was uncomfortable working on him. My boss was very understanding and receptive. He was also able to talk to the patient, and make sure it didn't happen again.

Describe a time when you had to sacrifice something.

I spent most of college looking for my passion. When I finally discovered my passion for veterinary medicine, I was in my second semester of my junior year. In order to prepare for vet school applications, I needed to gather experience. I volunteered many weekends at vaccine clinics, and gradually spent more and more time outside of my apartment, and away from my friends. I sacrificed my time that could have been spent with my friends having fun, but ultimately I do not regret this decision as I was able to grow from the experience and get closer to my dream.

I think the best way to approach this sort of conflict is by being a good listener and understanding where the other person is coming from. As a result you have a better idea of what the person is going through. From there, the other individual can express their concerns and the individuals can collaborate and work together to come up with a solution that would best fit both needs as to avoid further damage.

I was once in a talent show with a group of classmates. The group consensus was to sing a song together, but I recognized that some people did not want to sing. What would you do if you witnessed a coworker stealing Tylenol from Pyxis?

I would confront them about it, and let them know that I am really concerned. I would tell them that they are jeopardizing their license as well as mine. I would tell them to put it back, and that we need to sit down and talk about it. If he didn't want to listen, I would report him .

Question 3: If you were asked to establish a policy for a new store around refunds, what aspects would you take into consideration?

I would consider changing the policy to only allow purchases of 20 dollars with cash since that is the largest amount that can be refunded. I would consider trying to find a system that tracks individual's purchases so if people did lose their receipt, we are still able to find record of it. I would also implement a system where receipts could be emailed or texted to their phone so it would be easier not to lose the. These new attributes could make the policy more fair to those in a similar situation as the customer.

What if you had a patient that wanted to try a homeopathic remedy for her pains and aches that you have seen no evidence that it actually helps. there are no negative side effects. What do you tell her?

I would praise her for taking her health into her own hands and trying to find something that works for her. I would explain that I have been trained in evidence based medicine, and I have not found any research that supports homeopathic treatment, but that does not mean it cannot be helpful. . As a physician, I would encourage her to try something that does have evidence to help her aches, but if she was unwilling then I would support her decision to try homeopathic methods. I would schedule a follow up meeting to see how it is going, and do additional research on her methods.

PROMPT: The law firm you work for has a Facebook page, and one of your clients "likes" the page, allowing her to post on the page's wall. She then posts what you think is private information about her divorce settlement for public viewing. How would you contact her and what would you like to know from her? Who decides what to post in this situation? The client or the firm? What benefits in the medical field could be gained by social media use?

I would contact my client and see if we could talk in person privately. I would explain the risks of posting private information about the divorce on Facebook and encourage her to take the information down as it could have serious consequences. If the client refuses, then I would tell her that our Facebook will delete it as that is private information. If I did nothing there is a risk that it will defame the company as well as hurt the individuals and families involved in the divorce. (law firm, dont want to post confidential info to the public) Since it is the law firm's Facebook page then they should be able to decide what is posted on it and be able to monitor what is posted on it. However, they should realize that it is a public forum and so they should be aware of the risks. As a result, the law firm should make clients aware of the risks of posting private information on the Facebook page and discourage it if possible and explain that the purpose of the page is to advertise and market the firm, not to expose any private or confidential info. There could be many benefits in the medical field due to social media. For example, there could be more information on the benefits of receiving preventative care as well as teaching more people about proper healthcare in general. There could be seasonal posts that encourage vaccinations or videos on how to wash your hands properly. Also, social media could also be used to help spread information and newest updates on diseases or illnesses and what symptoms to be aware of. These ideas could help eliminate certain illnesses or diseases.

Imagine that you diagnose an elderly patient with a life threatening condition that requires overnight observation. The patient refuses to be treated. However, the patient's son tells you that the patient has dementia and is incapable of understanding the diagnosis or making medical decisions. The son wants you to admit the patient to the hospital against the patient's wishes. What do you do?

I would discuss the patient with the physician and determine whether they have the capacity to make decisions; pts have the right to refuse but generally only if they are A+O x4 a(1) person, (2) place, (3) time, and (4) situation. and are stable psychiatrically; -pt may need a POA (power of attorney) since incapable of making decisions

I would explain my concern and why I was knocking. If they still told me to go away, then I would leave and call the police as I do not know what the situation is. If I did not call the police, I could potentially be putting individuals in danger as well as myself.

Throughout the year you notice that Sally is consistently late for class, and often times is missing altogether. What services do you think that universities should offer students experiencing difficulties transitioning from high school? I would first express gratitude that she shared that with me and let her know how difficult the transition could be. I would explain that though I could not give her an extension on the exam, I would help her. I would suggest for her to come by my office and we could go over anything that she was having trouble with before the exam. After she takes the exam, we could also go over what she missed together. Lastly, I would suggest different campus resources that could help with her adjustment from high school to college. If I allowed the extension, then that would be unfair to other students who might be going through something similar. There should be a counceling service for students on campus that individuals could go to if they are having a difficult time. There should also be a program that helps freshman adjust such as a mentoring program where older students can help them with the transition. On campus housing RAs could be another resource available to them. Since everyone does learn differently, I think it would be beneficial for universities to use variety of methods testing material. For example, a course could do a combination of a written, oral, etc. exams so that students are graded on a wholistic scale. This could prepare students for professional life because they would learn how to communicate their knowledge through different mediums.

You work at a retail store. A customer wants to return an item for an $80.00 cash refund without a receipt, which is against the store policy. She pleads her case, explaining that she needs the money for her child's prescription. Your manager is unavailable, so as the most experienced employee, you must advise a younger salesperson and make the final decision. I would first express my apologies to her that we were unable to make the refund. As an employee I do not have the authority to override an established rule. Though this could have a negative impact on the customer, as well as her child (if she was being truthful), if I allowed the return, I would be sacrificing my job as well as being a bad example to the new employee. It could also lead to damaging the stores reputation as others might try to want the refund as well without a receipt. If she refused to do so, then I would approach my professor and explain the situation.

I would first realize that I do not have all the facts, and before I jump to any conclusion I need to gather all the information. First off, the information that the girl heard could be false or a misunderstanding. They might give students an option where they pay students to practice in rural areas, but it is not mandatory. If I do find out its true and I have gathered all the information from an administrator, then I would express my concerns if I still had them. Ultimately, I would have to decide with my family if the new issue fits into my current plants.

You prescribed a 13 year old birth control, and the pt's mother calls and is angry. What do you say?

I would first start by introducing myself to her. I would explain my reasoning and side of the story and why I felt that it was important for her daughter to be protected and what benefits that birth control can have for all women. I would ask her what questions she had, and what concerns and go from there.

I would say that I understand where they are coming from as that can be difficult. Q1: Imagine that doctors had the same duties and training requirements as current day, but enjoyed the prestige and take-home income of a high school teacher. Would you still be pursuing medicine?

I would still pursue medicine as it is something that I am passionate about. Becoming a physician has never been about the money, prestige, or job security for me. I want to help others, and support them on their road to recovery. For these reasons I would still pursue medicine.

Imagine that you witness your attending doing something that in your opinion does not fit the standard of care. How would you react?

I would take a step back and analyze the situation and try to understand the thought process of why the physician made that order -If I was still unsure I would consult the ordering physician and try to determine why he chose that treatment bc it could have been a mistake- made by me or by physician - If I know with 100% certainty that it is a mikstake, I would not follow those orders and tell the supervising physician that I am not comfortable with that

You are in a surgery and the anesthesiologist starts making inappropriate comments about the patient once they are asleep. What do you do in this situation?

I would tell them that is inappropriate and to stop. Next time they did it, I would report it.

IF I were able to redo the situation, I would have tried to compromise with my group. We could have added a simple background, or added in special group motions that would not have cost the group too much effort/time to implement.

If I saw the car again, I would write his license plate number down and confront him in a non accusatory way about my concerns. Question 3: What would be your strategy if you were faced with a conflict that cannot be resolved?

If I were faced with a conflict that could not be resolved, I would try to identify why the conflict could not be resolved. Perhaps there is a conflict of personal interests, or time. In order to reach the best resolution, I would encourage all conflicting parties to discuss their priorities and to reach a compromise.

If a patient was seeing success with something that you have not seen any evidence that it works what would you tell them?

If a patient was seeing success with a treatment that I did not believe was effective, I would be happy that they have found something that works for them and will do additionnal research with it. I would then encouage additional treatment with something that has evidence to back it up as well. However, if I knew of potential harmful side effects of their homeopathic medication then I would encourage them to not take it anymore.

What if you told your supervisor and he told you not to get involved

If he advises me not to get involved, then I would explain my obligation as a parking attendant to ensure safety of all vehicles in the lot. I would tell him that I am going to call the police about the situation as this not only could affect our jobs as well as the companies, but it also affects the individual who had her car hit and the individual who hit her car.

You find out that your colleague was perscribed medical marijuana. What would you do?

If the collegue was using medical marijuana, then I would encourage him to talk to the supervisor about it. If he was using marijuana, there could be situations where he was not in the right state of mind to be working. However, if he refused, I would tell him that I needed to let the supervisor know of the situation as it could affect people's safety. AS a supervisor we are in charge of being alert and aware and it is my resposbility to keep that and to protect himself from others assuming something (any other medication it comes iwth risks and supervisor hsould be aware of that)

How would you handle the situation if the student did not respond to one of your initial attempts to resolve the problem?

If the student did not respond to any initial attempts to stop the flirting or being inappropriate then I would report the incident to the supervisor and go from there. A solution could be to place the student in another class and maintain close supervision so this situation does not happen again.

SUpervisor fires you and gives you no reason

If the supervisor fires me, I would confront him. I would try to ask why I was being fired. If he would not give me any sort of reason. If my previous history had been good and no warnings then then I would report my case as a wrongful firing.

What suggestions can you make to help the group function better going forward?

If there was nothing going on with the student that was preventing her from coming to the study group prepared then I would discuss with the group and re-establish expectations. We would discuss each person's role and have everyone agree to them. If there were any confusions on roles or what was expected then we would discuss them further and come to a consensus. If there was something that was going on, I would let them know that we are here for her and encourage her to seek out campus resources. I would also consider talking to our teacher and explaining the situation.

PROMPT: A doctor is managing a 70-year old gentleman with severe dementia, and she has been in direct communication with the patient's family. The doctor is becoming frustrated with the family for not helping to remind the patient to take his prescription medication, which will help alleviate his symptoms. The family is upset with the doctor for being irritated with them because, as they see it, they do all they can for their father, given their other professional and personal responsibilities. How could this situation have been avoided? What are the steps of conflict resolution? When does a doctor ask for help in a situation like this? Who can she turn to?

In order to avoid this situation from happening the physician could do a few things. First, it would be necessary to sit down with the family members in person, if possible, and explain how demanding this position can be. Next, I would explain their roles and make sure that everyone is okay with what they need to do. If they feel like they cannot take care on this man, then it might be necessary to obtain at home care. If they are okay with their duties, then I would express the importance of his medication and come up with ways that they can remember such as putting it next to their bed or setting an alarm on their phone so they can remember to give him his medication. Lastly I would express gratitude to them. The steps of conflict resolution is to first understand where the others are coming from and try to see the problem from their point of view. Afterwards, it is necessary to talk to them in a kind manner and gather all the information and to really listen to their personal situations. Next, they can provide their rationale for how they are feeling and can collaborate together to come up with a better solution that would better fit the needs of both parties. In a situation where the physician knows that someone is not being cared for and the family does not seem to show resolve to improve then then this could potentially be a case of neglect. As a result it would be necessary to report this to my supervisor so they can decide what the next level of action is and if the police can take it under further investigation.

In order to prepare for a natural disaster a city should do a few things. First the city should set up refugee sites where individuals can go if their home is destroyed or will be hit. These refugee sites will be filled with beds, food, and clean water. Second the city should have an emergency food storage so when disaster strikes, grocery stores aren't left with nothing. Lastly, they should have an emergency fund so they can plan for recovery. And ample sources of alternative power systems like generators and solar panels In order to prepare for an emergency myself it is necessary to create emergency backpacks and kits. These backpacks are filled with essentials like water, food, flashlights, and medications. Families can make these for each member of their family so that if a disaster happens they can have these. Lastly, individuals should have food storage stocked with essentials so if they are stuck indoors they can have necessary supplies. Also individuals should have battery operated emergency radios so that if power goes out they can still have access to weather traffic and emergency notifications. Health professionals have an obligation to use their knowledge and education to help those in need, especially during natural disasters. If that means working extra hours or in potentially dangerous situations, then they should do so. However, it is important for physicians to be smart about where they go as to not put themselves in danger. By creating a pre-made plan for physicians that assigns them to areas that will be affected during these times it would benefit society as they can help those recover.

How could doctors be persuaded to work in rural areas?

In order to relieve the shortage of doctors in rural areas, the government should come up with ways to promote it. For example, a program that pays for medical school in exchange for the doctor working in rural areas. Another example could be paying physicians a higher amount in rural areas to help persuade doctors to practice there.

You're a pilot waiting at the airport for your next assignment. You are sitting at the bar with a colleague who is also awaiting an assignment. Your colleague gets a call informing him of his next assignment. You over hear him accept the assignment, you have observed that he has been drinking beers at the bar while waiting. #2 What will you do in this situation?

In this situation I do not have all the information so it is important that I do not jump to any premature conclusions. I would talk to my colleague privately and first apologize for overhearing his conversation. Then, I would simply mention to him that I observed him drinking what appeared to be beer and that I was concerned if his next assignment was immediate. At this point, a few things could happen. He could say that his next assignment was not immediate or that he was consuming non-alcoholic beer, at which point there would be nothing to be concerned about. Alternatively, they could say that it was an honest mistake and an oversight when they accepted the assignment, and now that I brought it to their attention they will rectify the situation by cancelling their assignment. Lastly, it could turn out that my colleague is being irresponsible and dismisses my attempts to intervene. At this point, I would strongly remind him that I am concerned about everyone's safety, and if they are unwilling to talk to the supervisor then I would be obligated to do so regardless of how it would affect our relationship.

PROMPT: A family member is acting as an interpreter as you get consent for a procedure for your patient. You are suspicious that the interpreter is not fully translating what you are saying with respect to the risks involved. How would you ensure that your patient is able to give an informed consent? What potential issues could arise if a family member is acting as a communicator? How would this situation proceed if instead a paid translator, who has no relation to the family, were used?

In this situation, I do not want to jump to any conclusions that the family member is not interpreting correctly. However, if I did not do anything I could potentially be putting the patient at risk. As a result, I would ensure that my patient is obtaining informed consent by finding another interpreter at the hospital who is not related to the patient to ensure that he is getting all the correct information. There are many potential issues that could arise if a family member is acting as a communicator because it could become a conflict of interest. The family member may not want to pay for the surgery and is telling false risks of the procedure. Or the family member could be trying to persuade them to do a procedure for a personal gain, even if it is not in the patients best interest. There could also be a chance that a family member does not want to share all the risks as to not scare them or make them upset. As a result of this conflict of interest it would be best to use an additional interpreter in this situation to make sure that the patient is able to give informed consent. If a paid translator was used then that would eliminate any conflict of interest. As a result, the patient would be able to receive informed consent with no other bias. The patient would then be able to make a logical decision on the proposed treatment

What would you do?

In this situation, I need to evaluate the patient. I need to do an extensive patient background as well as figure out what the current pain is. MY first thought would be to treat him with a nonaddictive pain medication such as advil. However, If I feel he is in excruciating pain then I will prescribe medication. However, I would schedule a follow up to evaluate other medical options such as physical therapy or another type of procedure that would be able to reduce the amount of pain killers he is taking. If I feel the patient is addicted to the pain medication and does not need it with his current health state, then I would discuss the risks of taking pain medications and encourage to try another type of treatment without fulfilling the prescription for pain medication.

You are a surgeon. You present to the hospital at 7:30am to prepare for the day. As you are changing, a fellow surgeon - a friend of yours - enters the change room and they are acting strangely. You smell a slight scent of alcohol when they come close to you. You know that this surgeon is next in line to run the Department of Surgery at your hospital and will be making important decisions about funding and OR time in the very near future, and you have never seen them act this way before.

In this situation, I need to remain objective and non judgemental as I do not have all the facts. I do not want to assume that the surgeon is intoxicated and will operate on a patient. Perhaps the surgeon smells like alcohol because someone spilled some on him or he is intoxicated, but not planning on operating and left something at the hospital. Alternatively, the surgeon could be intoxicated and chose to come to work and operate. Thus, I need to gather more information. I would talk to the surgeon privately and explain that I was concerned about the situation. If he was in fact going to operate and had been drinking, I would encourage him to go home and find another surgeon that could perform the surgery. If the surgeon dismissed my concerns, then I would remind him that he is putting the patient's safety at risk. He is also putting his medical license at risk, as well as mine. If he was not willing to leave then I would have to report him.

You are an amusement park ride attendent. Your colleague shows up late for his shifts and smells of marijuana What do you do?

In this situation, I want to remain objective as I do not want to assume that my colleague is coming to work intoxicated and is being irresponsible. It is possible that the colleague simply smells like mariujauana because someone close to him was using it. However, if he was not in the right state of mind he could not only put his job at risk, but he could also put the safety of all the riders at risk. As a result, I would need to confront him in a non accusatory manner about my concerns. If the colleague was under the influence, I would encourage him to tell the supervisor and that he needs to go home as to not put others in danger. If he was unwilling to listen, then I would be obligated to tell the supervisor. If he was not using marijuana, then all is resolved and express my apologies as I was concerned for the safety of everyone.

Q2. While turnover is generally something to be avoided, it can be argued that Jim provides a commodity service. Rationalize an improvement or replacement plan.

Since it is difficult for Jim to shower as there are none at the facility and that he comes from another job, then it is necessary to come up with a plan to accommodate him if he is willing to change his behavior. Perhaps his schedule could be changed so that he has time to shower before his class. Or that showers could be built at the site as many other people might be experiencing a similar issue. If Jim is unwilling to change his behavior or it is impossible to accommodate him then it might be necessary to let him go. It is only hurting Jim and the class to continue pestering him on something that he can't change or won't. However, we could give him a good recommendation to another gym that could fit his schedule. Jim is working two jobs, and is understandably pressed for time. If it is possible to accommodate him, this would be preferable, however he must be held to the same standard of hygiene and appearance as everyone else. Ideally showers could be installed, not only helping Jim but possibly other instructors or even customers. If not practical, the schedule could be arranged to allow Jim to teach classes only after he has had time to go home and shower. Or if Jim knows what days his work is lighter and so would have good hygiene coming directly from his full-time job, it could also be a reasonable compromise. However, if there is no way to accommodate Jim's current situation, we should let him go. It's better to have a consistent performance, both for the business and Jim's life. Constantly faulting him doesn't help the business and ultimately will make Jim feel unappreciated anyway. We could promise a positive recommendation to any other gym who can accommodate his schedule to maintain proper hygiene.

A friend who had been chronically ill wanted you to end his life What is your stance on Physician Assisted suicide ?>

Since this is such a hot topic in today's society it is important to look at both sides of the argument. On the pro side it can be helpful to eliminate unbearable pain that the terminal patient might be going through as well as giving individuals a choice and more freedom. However, on the con side it is unethical to allow someone to die before it is naturally time and violates the Hippocratic oath, devalues life, and there can be misuses of it if it becomes legal. Thus for those reasons, I do not believe in physician assisted suicide. However, if the patient is in pain I will try to make them as comfortable as possible in their last days.

Air Force One, the private flight service for the President of the United States, makes frequent unscheduled landings at major airports. Because of security concerns, all flights landing at or taking off from these airports are grounded in these instances. The situation often leads to several hours of flight delays for thousands of passengers. 1. Is it fair that the security of an important elected official such as the President of the United States take precedence over the travel plans of thousands of his/her constituents?

The President of the United States should take precedence in situations that require urgency. If not there could be negative consequences for the entire population. However, if the situation does not require immediate attention or urgency then it would be best for the President of the US to not take precedence as it can affect thousands of individuals. Although a traveler encountering this situation would obviously be frustrated and potentially believe this process isn't fair, I believe the President taking precedence is for the greater good. The President is the leader of the free nation and their well-being is often associated with the well being of America. If an act of terrorism or other violent act happens to the president, it often is interpreted as instability or turmoil in the nation overall. In order to protect anonymity and unpredictability in the President's schedule, it would be imperative to continue the practice of unscheduled stops. However, if it is matter that is more of a casual visit instead of something related to national security, the flight plan could be adjusted to land at times that an airport is less busy, thus causing the least delay to the smallest amount of people possible.

There are currently increasing talks of increasing the rate at which Syrian refugees are allowed to enter Canada and the United States. Both countriesm much like their European counterparts, have had to implement measures to regulate the influx of refugees in the country. One controversial

The Syrian refugee crisis is a major concern for everyone, especially those countries who have stepped up to accept the large number of incoming refugees. The policy introduced seems to be concerned about striking a balance between humanitarian needs and security needs. Some argue that by limiting entry to families, we reduce the risk of having individuals who are a security concern from entering the country. But of course, others argue that by simply and arbitrarily excluding young, single males from entering the country we are not only acting in a discrimnatory manner, but we are also not reducing our security concerns, as anyone entering the country could potentially be a security risk. Therefore, I do not agree with such a policy and I think other steps need to be taken in order to effectively screen refugees prior to granting them entry into the country. This has to be done effectively and efficiently so that we act in a humanitarian manner without risking the safety and security of US and Canadian citizens.

A time you failed

The first job I applied for after graduation was to a veterinary technician opening at an emergency vet clinic. However, no matter how many times I reached out for a response, I never got one. Although I was disheartened, I realized that I shouldn't get hung up on this one failure. Instead, I focused on editing my resume and practicing for interviews, and soon I landed a job at a different vet clinic. This experience taught me that there will always be times when we fail. It is what we choose to do after that will affect the future. The only thing we can do is move forward and try to do better next time.

What is the greatest challenge you have ever faced and what did you do to overcome it?

The greatest challenge I ever faced was when my family was against me pursuing vet school. My family believed that doctors for animals were "less" than doctors for humans, even though they knew that I was passionate about animal care. In the end, I realized that I would be the one working

The legalization of recreational marijuana has its benefits and consequences. If marijuana was legalized for recreational use, states could experience and economic boom. It could also potentially lead to a decrease in crime as police officials are able to focus their attention on more violeny crimes. Lastly, there is evidence shown that it can help with chronic pain. However, marijuana has harmful effects on the body and is an intoxicating and addictive drug. It can increase the risk of heart attack, blood pressure, and decrease oxygen levels. Legalization could also mean more youth getting addicted to drugs or arrested. Though there are both sides to this argument, I believe that the negatives to legalize marijuana far outweigh the positives therefore I do not agree that it should be legalized for recreational use.

Q3. Social media has changed how we separate private and professional life. How should a healthy workplace and fairness be balanced with reputation and privacy?

The role of social media often blurs the lines between professional and private life. To ensure a healthy work place, I would encourage employees to be mature and professional in what they post as it reflects on who they are. It could also have a negative impact in the work place if they are choosing to be unprofessional or irresponsible. Social media has provided more information and lowered barriers between our personal and professional lives, however the basic values remain the same. Information acquired outside of normal channels, such as a seeing a colleague in a public place, still elicit a duty of care to look into the matter if concerning. Fairness and a healthy workplace are ultimately more important, but can usually be maintained without excessive invasion of privacy. Any investigation should be done as discreetly as possible, with the minimum number of parties involved. However, one thing that social media may have changed is the need to then agree on and distribute messaging to colleagues who may have heard rumors but no satisfactory explanation. This may also mean more management involved depending on the issue, from their individual managers to HR, to maybe even PR. This is important to keep the trust of all in the workplace, but even then should be kept to the smallest group affected, and can often be done word-of-mouth only.

Describe the major differences between schoolyard bullying and cyberbullying.

There are a few differences between school yard bullying and cyber bullying. First cyberbullying is often found on social media, whereas schoolyard bullying is in a public area. In cyberbullying the perpetrator is behind the comfort of their screen, and will often say things that they may not say in person. Alternatively, in schoolyard bullying individuals are forced to confront each other in person. Another difference is that schoolyard bullying tends to involve a group and is more public.

What are the hardships of working in rural areas?

There can be many hardships associated with wroking in rural areas. First, individuals might have limited knowledge on healthcare and preventative care since there is not as many doctors. An underserved area also means that the individuals could potentially be in a lower socioeconomic status and might have lower levels of education.. There could also be socioeconmic strains to be able to receive healthcare. benefits- get to know your patients, be able to have busier days, small town pace

"The doctor should be opaque to his patients and, like a mirror, should show them nothing but what is shown to him." What does this quote mean to you?

This quote means that physicians and other healthcare providers need to be completely honest with their patients, and not withhold any information. The physician should do their best to also not give any false or misleading information, only that which is true and evident. It also explains that physicians should not use any personal bias to interfere with their professional and researched recommendation.

There is some evidence to suggest that the widespread use of certain wireless tablet devices in hospitals has led to significant improvements in patient satisfaction as well as some small decreases in physician error. During the product launch of technologies such as the tablet, product shortages frequently occur, leaving some prospective consumers empty-handed. Knowing that these technologies may benefit patients in hospital, some believe that hospitals should be given priority treatment to receive devices before being offered to the community at large.

Though it is important for hospitals to maintain patient satisfaction and reduce error because they do see alot of patients, the first-come, first-served system should not be overruled. Certain clinics could have been waiting months for the tablets, and it would be unfair to give the tablets to hospitals first even if it would benefit them.

If doctors were getting paid the same, regardless of hours they put in or the number of patients they have seen, would you still pursue the profession?

Though it may be unfair that doctors who work 100 plus hours a week, while another doctor was getting paid the same only working 60 hours a week, i would still pursue medicine as a career. Becoming a physician assistant was never about the salary or job security for me. It was about being able to help people and study medicine, which is why I would continue to pursue a job in it.

Q2: Did you attempt to clarify or rectify the situation?

Though it was my strategy, it is important to give credit to those who also worked on the campaign. I explained that the creative team executed and created the graphics, and did an excellent job of implementing the strategy creatively. As a result, the creative team was able to receive the praise they deserved on the project.

In the field of medicine as a career option, there are no guarentees. If your specialization required 10 additional years of schooling and there were no job guarantees for when you graduation, would you still pursue medicine?

Though there is no guaranteed job security after graduation, I would still pursue the specialization and the field of medicine because it is something that I am passionate about. There are a lot of occupations that cannot guarantee security so it is best to pick something that you really want to do. Since I am passionate about healthcare and medicine then I would still pursue it as there is uncertainty in all aspects of life.

Discuss the importance of truth telling and honesty in medicine.

Truth telling and honesty are extremely important in medicine as physicians are obligated to follow a code of ethics and to do no harm. If physicians are lying or not being honest, then they could lose their license as well as put patients in danger.

Tell me about a time that you made a mistake at work?

When I first started as a vet tech, I wrongly told a client that we carried a brand of medication that they wanted. When the client showed up, I apologized profusely that we did not carry the brand they had asked about, but that we did carry the same medication under a different brand. From this experience, I learned to think carefully before speaking, and to not be afraid to double check the accuracy of my statements before sharing them.

Describe one time when your boss had to confront you about an issue with your work.

When I first started as a veterinary technician, I was still learning what questions to ask in order to obtain a brief history to report to the doctor. My boss confronted me because I took too long to obtain history. Afterwards, I asked to see how the other technicians were taking history, and I learned about what questions to ask, and how to document the answers succinctly.

1. Describe a situation where you have experienced a travel delay at a time that was inconvenient for you. How did you handle it?

When I was traveling, my flight had been delayed due to a problem with one of the engines. We were forced to wait 5 hours for the engine to be fixed and allowed to fly. Though it was inconvenient, the safety of the plane is what matters most. If we were to fly on time but in a plane that was not working properly, then the safety of all passengers would be threatened. It could also have extreme consequences on the airline.

Describe a time when you used teamwork to solve a problem.

When I was volunteering at a free vaccine clinic, there was a particularly fractious dog that would attempt to bite any person that got too close. To solve this problem, we had one technician restraining the animal, one technician on standby ready to jump in if anything happened, and the owners were present to distract the dog with compliments and treats, while I was administering the vaccine.

Describe a time in your life when you had to tell someone a hard truth. What did you learn from the experience?

When I was working as a freshmen mentor at my university, I was in charge of helping students find majors, work through any challenges they were having, and lastly being their friend. I had a student that really wanted to apply to the business program at our university, but had really poor grades. Though I wanted to be supportive, I needed to be honest with her that she had a low chance of getting in unless she retook her classes. I confronted her privately and discussed my concerns. I told her the requirements that she would need to have in order to be a competitive applicant and encouraged her to retake the class. Though it was difficult and a sensitive conversation, I had an obligation as a mentor to be honest. However, we were able to come up with ways that she could do better in her classes the second time around like forming a study group, and meeting with her professor often

Regardless of what we do in life, there will be times when we will come into a disagreement with an authority figure or superior. Describe a time when you came into conflict with an authority figure and how you dealt with it?

When I was working as a physical therapist technician, my boss came up with a new filing system. After a few days of using it, i felt there were a few holes in the new system. I decided to approach him about it and communicate my ideas. He was very nice about it and ended up implementing my ideas.

A time you received unfair treatment or criticism

When I was working as a physical therapy technician, we had a patient that came in after a shoulder surgery. Unfortunately, we did not take her insurance and she would have to pay out of pocket. When I told her that, she got extremely angry saying that she had called our clinic and someone had told her that we took her insurance. The patient also was angry because she had taken off work and driven to our clinic. Though, I was not the person that took the call I was the one receiving the criticism. At that point, it did not matter who told her that. Our goal is to treat patients with the utmost respect and give them the best possible care. I apologized profusely, and helped her find another clinic nearby that took her insurance. This taught me to???

In your experience how do you deal with uncooperative group members?

When dealing with an uncooperative group member, I always try to see from their point of view. This helps me understand where they are coming from. I will then talk to them privately to see if anything was going on and how I could help. I would work towards obtaining a compromise and continue moving forward.

A time you had a serious disagreement

When the COVID-19 pandemic began, the vet clinic I worked at needed to change the way we worked in order to safely examine pets away from their owners. However, I disagreed with my boss over the way we should be handing pets off, and believed that her way would be putting the technicians at higher risk of contraction. However, there was the possibility that I was missing information due to my lack of experience and knowledge. Thus, I asked her for a private conversation to discuss my concerns. In this way, we were able to resolve our disagreement and come up with a better way to keep the community safe from COVID-19.

How does having a conflict with an authority figure differ from having a conflict with one of your peers?

Whether it is a conflict between a peer or an authority figure, you should deal with it the same by acting professionally and communicating. By understanding why they feel a certain way, individuals can work to resolve conflict because they are putting themselves in the other persons shoes. In each a individual should approach the conflict with humility and desire to learn. listen to them,' resipectful, not blame. professional use these skills for either It could potentialy differ with an authority figure to a higher degree because of the relationship, but the concepts remain the same

1. Should companies be forced to discount their products when there is a societal benefit?

While it may benefit the company to mantain a high price of products, it would have a higher positive outcome if the products were discounted. Since the tablets offer higher patient satisfaction and reduce error this could have a huge impact on reducing problems in the health care system. As a result, companies should discount these items so that all clinics have access to these tools that will benefit society.

"We should never engage in conflict." Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

While some conflict is unnecessary, I do not agree that no one should engage in conflict. Without conflict individuals would never be able to learn how to compromise or how to work together. Though conflict can be difficult it is needed to help us grow as we learn from other people who are not like us. Additionally, if individuals never address conflict at the time it occurs then it could lead to people bottling up their emotions and cause destructive situations when eventually discussed.

Have you ever been at odds with a coworker? How did you handle this?

Yes. When I was filling medication for a patient, I used a rubberband to tie together the drug formulary to the pill container. My coworker angrily confronted me because she was upset that I wrapped the rubber band around the container too many times. While I understood that this was an inconvenience for her, I was not happy with the tone she used. I explained that I recognized her concern and agreed with her, and that next time I would not wrap the rubberband so many times. However, I also asked her to speak in a more professional and kindly manner, after which she calmed down and the issue was resolved.
