Job seeking Skills Training Sources of Job Leads- Internet, informal sources such as private communication channels, friends , relatives and inquiries from other people with disabilities who are currently working. Employment Rights- The employer must identify the essential job functions in the job description so that the applicant can have a basic understanding of what is required. The applicant is not required to disclose the presence of a disability during the interview. Employers are not held responsible for providing accommodations if they are not notified of such needs by the applicant. Employer Expectations- Some employers hold negative attitudes towards people with disabilities. Organization of the job search- A schedule of job hunting activities such as developing a list of companies, marking the locations on a map, identifying public transportation routes, planning the itinerary for the day. Completion of job application forms- Completing the items neatly, accurately and within the space provided, prepare your work and education information on index cards in advance, job seeker should request the employer to mail a copy to the their house. Job interviewing training- Knowing the protocol on how to start the interview , describe work related skills , describing education and work related skills, discussing accommodation needs. Instruction should be provided on appropriate appearance, attitude, and behavior for the job interview. Supervised practice in Job seeking- Ongoing support and practice for the job. discussing experiences and providing encouragement for continuing the search. The accommodation request process - The applicant is required to inform the interviewer of the need for an accommodation during the hiring process.
