The Dutch settlement stood in the way of England's plan to united its Northern and Southern colonies. Renamed it New York because the England's Duke of York became the new proprietor, or owner.

What did Penn believe in and what did he have his colony do?

Allowed freedom of religion, granted the right to vote to all adult male settlers and sought friendly relations with Native Americans. Believed that settlers had to buy land from the Native Americans. He formed a court that included colonists and Native Americans to help settle differences between the two groups

What was the relationship between the Dutch and the Native Americans?

Mostly friendly relationship with the Native Americans. Unlike the English colonists, the Dutch settlers did not wish to take the Native American's land which was a huge reason the Native Americans fought with other settlements. They were more interested in trading with the Native Americans (fur)
