Charles's Law

the law that states that for a fixed amount of gas at a constant pressure, the volume of the gas increases as its temperature increases, and the volume of the gas decreases as its temperature decreases

Boyle's Law

the law that states that for a fixed amount of gas at a constant temperature, the volume of the gas increases as its pressure decreases and the volume of the gas decreases as its pressure increases

states of matter

the physical forms in which a substance can exist; states include solid, liquid, gas, and plasma

gas

the state in which matter changes in both shape and volume

solid

the state in which matter has a definite shape and volume

liquid

the state in which matter takes the shape of its container and has a definite volume

plasma

the state of matter that does not have a definite shape or volume and whose particles have broken apart

evaporation

vaporization that occurs at the surface of a liquid below the liquid's boiling point

boiling

vaporization that occurs throughout a liquid
