Proxy Server
5.3 A device that stands as an intermediary between an application such as a web browser and the Internet. The intercepts all requests and *can use filter rules to allow or deny internet traffic*.
Proxy Servers
5.3 A device that stands as the middle between an application such as a web browser and the Internet. They can also be used to prevent access to specific websites. If you are having problems accessing intranet pages whenever trying to install a device you may want to look at the browser proxy settings.
Pop-up Blocker
5.3 A feature of most web browsers that prevents pop-up windows such as advertisements from being displayed.
Web Search
5.3 A search of the World Wide Web using a web browser, often done by visiting a web search engine site such as Google, Bing, or Yahoo. Ex: Netflix com

Cloud Storage
5.4 A cloud computing service that remotely maintains, manages, and backs up data and makes that data available to users over a network. *Network is another word for internet*
Software as a Service (SaaS)
5.4 A team associated with cloud hosting. This provides users with the applications they need to do their day-to-day work through the cloud.
Cloud Computing Facts
5.4 Common uses of cloud technology include file storage, website hosting, web applications, social media, and gaming services
Microsoft PowerPoint
5.4 Example that doesn't rely on cloud
Google Cloud
5.4 It operates on a pay-as-you-go basis. Google charges you not for the machines themselves, but for the resources they use (bandwidth and processing power) per second.
Internet Connection Issues
5.4 It's a big problem when your Internet connection goes down.
Advantages
5.4 Lower costs, easier collaboration (simple for people to work together), data backup, data security (helps protect data)
Software as a Service
5.4 One of the main categories of cloud computing is a branch known as _____________________. This is where company offers a subscription to use a particular piece of software delivered over the internet.
Accessibility
5.4 The cloud gives you access to your data on any device and from any location. All you need is the right application and an Internet connection.
SaaS Applications
5.4 The end user also doesn't need any particular kind of hardware to host the software as it's taken care of by the host company.
Cloud Computing
5.4 The use of remote services hosted on the internet to store, manage, and process data.
Cloud Hosting Outages
5.4 You may be unable to access your files when the cloud service is down.

To help fill these needs, people use financial *crowdsourcing platforms = raise funds*, such as GoFundMe, to ask people for donations of any size to help share the financial burden.
VoIP Disadvantages
5.6 *VoIP systems rely fully on a stable internet connection with adequate bandwidth. In the event of a power or internet outage, VoIP becomes unavailable*. Some businesses have a traditional backup phone line in case of emergencies.
Asynchronous Technology
5.6 A technology that allows groups to communicate by taking turns, such as in *emailing and text messaging .... And message boards*.
Synchronous Technology

Reply
5.6 You'll often want to respond directly to the sender of an email without replying to the other recipients.
Privacy and Security Concerns
Data files stored on the cloud are susceptible to hackers. *Nearly all cloud service providers use encryption for this reason* *Encryption converts information into secret code*.
