used to hold a round bottom flask on top of a lab table

Liquid Reagent Sample Bottle

used to hold a specific liquid reagent during a lab

test tube holder

used to hold a test tube (with hands) during heating or a reaction

Distillation Flask

Used to hold a mixture of liquids that are to be heated, boiled and then vapors may be collected. Fractional distillation method uses this piece of glassware.

Spot Plate

Used to hold and organize a set of chemical tests with small samples. Micro chemistry uses these.

buret with stopcock

used to add exact volumes (TWO DECIMAL PLACES) of liquid chemicals to a reaction. Most often used in a TITRATION PROCEDURE

adjustable clamp

used to adjust and secure parts of an apparatus to a ring stand

wash bottle

used to apply a stream of liquid, usually water (ice water) for rinsing or cleaning.

safety glass

used to assist the protection of the eyes in ALL laboratory activities and promote consciousness of proper laboratory fashion

funnel

used to channel the flow of a fluid into another container; used to hold the filter during filtration

beaker brush

used to clean beakers, flasks, fleakers, and other pieces of laboratory equipment,

test tube brush

used to clean test tubes

gas collecting bottle

used to collect gas samples and hold them for testing

rubber hose

used to conduct the flow of a fluid (liquid or gas) from one container to another

u-tube

used to connect two different solutions, usually to build an electrochemical cell

pipette with bulb

used to draw off a certain volume of a liquid. usually used to transfer and/or dilute solutions

buchner funnel

used to draw off the filtrate with suction; used to produce drier residues, faster

glass cutter

used to etch a groove in a piece of glass tubing so that it can be broken cleanly

mortar and pestle

used to grind up solid samples into smaller ones

Fischer Burner

used to heat samples in the lab provides greater amount

Bunsen Burner

used to heat samples in the lab, provides lower amount of heat

Erlenmeyer flask

used to hold chemical samples for reactions, heating and storage. they are easier to stir by just moving your wrist. used then when liquids must be mixed/stirred often

beaker

used to hold chemical samples for reactions, heating and storage. they are easier to stir by just moving your wrist. used then when liquids must be mixed/stirred often

fleaker

used to hold chemical samples for reactions, heating and storage. they combine the best features of both the beaker and the erlenmeyer flask

watch glass

used to hold crystals or other samples for drying and/or observation. occasionally uses as a cover

petri dish

used to hold growing cultures of micro-organisms. in chemistry they are chiefly used as high sided substitutes for watch glasses

Florence flask

used to hold liquids that are to be heated for extended periods of time; round bottom allows the liquid being heated to set up a convention current and stir itself while it is heated; organic chemistry

ring clamp

used to hold other pieces of equipment on a ring stand; usually for heating or filtering

wire gauze

used to hold other pieces of equipment on a ring stand; usually when they are to be heated

ring stand

used to hold pieces of laboratory apparatus securely

Erlenmeyer flask with sidearm

used to hold reactants that will produce a gas that is to be collected; also used for suction filtration

evaporating dish

used to hold small amounts of liquid samples that are to be evaporated so that the residue may be examined

test tube

used to hold small amounts of samples for reactions or heating. some test tubes are specifically designed for use in a centrifuge or in a spectrophotometer

deflagerating spoon

used to hold small amounts of solid samples that are to be BURNED

crucible and cover

used to hold small amounts of solid samples that are to be HEATED TO HIGH TEMPERATURES.

Solid Sample Bottle

used to hold solid samples that are to be used in the lab

test tube clamp

used to hold test tubes or other pieces of equipment to a ring stand

thermometer clamp

used to hold thermometers that are to be clamped to a ring stand

Double Buret Clamp

used to hold two burets securely to a ring stand

water trough

used to hold water, especially for the collection of a gas by water displacement. we will also use them to hold an ice water bath when we collect crystals

balance

used to measure mass in the lab

thermometer

used to measure the temperature of samples in the lab

graduated cylinder

used to measure the volume of liquid samples in the lab

volumetric flask

used to prepare one specific volume of a solution with a definite concentration

cork

used to prevent the escape of some chemical from a container

stopper

used to prevent the escape of some chemical from a container; may have holes or to drill a hole in the cork

screw clamp

used to regulate the flow of a fluid through a piece of rubber tubing

cork bore

used to safely insert glass tubing or thermometers into stopper holes or to drill a hole in a cork

separatory funnel

used to separate and pour immiscible liquid of different densities, extraction process

stirring rod

used to stir liquid samples, usually to aid the dissolving of some solute into the solvent or to maintain a near constant temperature while heating
