used to channel the flow of a fluid into another container; used to hold the filter during filtration
beaker brush
used to clean beakers, flasks, fleakers, and other pieces of laboratory equipment,
test tube brush
used to clean test tubes
gas collecting bottle
used to collect gas samples and hold them for testing
rubber hose
used to conduct the flow of a fluid (liquid or gas) from one container to another
u-tube
used to connect two different solutions, usually to build an electrochemical cell
pipette with bulb
used to draw off a certain volume of a liquid. usually used to transfer and/or dilute solutions

used to draw off the filtrate with suction; used to produce drier residues, faster
glass cutter
used to etch a groove in a piece of glass tubing so that it can be broken cleanly
mortar and pestle
used to grind up solid samples into smaller ones
Fischer Burner
used to heat samples in the lab provides greater amount
Bunsen Burner
used to heat samples in the lab, provides lower amount of heat
Erlenmeyer flask
used to hold chemical samples for reactions, heating and storage. they are easier to stir by just moving your wrist. used then when liquids must be mixed/stirred often
beaker
used to hold chemical samples for reactions, heating and storage. they are easier to stir by just moving your wrist. used then when liquids must be mixed/stirred often
fleaker
used to hold chemical samples for reactions, heating and storage. they combine the best features of both the beaker and the erlenmeyer flask
watch glass
used to hold crystals or other samples for drying and/or observation. occasionally uses as a cover
petri dish
used to hold growing cultures of micro-organisms. in chemistry they are chiefly used as high sided substitutes for watch glasses
Florence flask
used to hold liquids that are to be heated for extended periods of time; round bottom allows the liquid being heated to set up a convention current and stir itself while it is heated; organic chemistry
ring clamp
used to hold other pieces of equipment on a ring stand; usually for heating or filtering
wire gauze
used to hold other pieces of equipment on a ring stand; usually when they are to be heated
ring stand
used to hold pieces of laboratory apparatus securely
Erlenmeyer flask with sidearm
used to hold reactants that will produce a gas that is to be collected; also used for suction filtration
evaporating dish
used to hold small amounts of liquid samples that are to be evaporated so that the residue may be examined
test tube
used to hold small amounts of samples for reactions or heating. some test tubes are specifically designed for use in a centrifuge or in a spectrophotometer
