CPT Chapter 2: Psychology of Behavior Change
Maintenance
Fifth stage of change where client is sustaining their new, healthy behavior for more than 6 months.
Pre-Contemplation
First stage of change where client is in denial, or ignorant, that a change is necessary, possible, or worth the effort within the next 6 months
Action
Fourth stage of change where client is engaged in change behavior for < 6 months; new behavior is not fully stabilized.
Contemplation
Second stage of change where client contemplates making a change in the next 6 months, but is reluctant to change.
Preparation
Third stage of change where client commits to making a change in the target behavior within 30 days; engages in preparation activities (buys apparel or equipment, signs up for gym membership, collects information, initiates the hire of a personal trainer)
