CTHEI Unit 6C and 6B Vocabulary List

Semester

A measurement of time used in schools; usually half the school year. EXAMPLE; A "Fall Semester" usually goes from Aug-Dec. I wonder how I'm gonna do on my semesters

Graduation Plan

A plan of earning credits toward graduation, specifying how many credits to earn per subject area. AISD has 3 plans I have a great Graduation Plan.

Technical School

A post-secondary training institution for skilled trades not requiring a college degree. I'm not gonna go to a Technical School.

Grade Point Average (GPA)

Average of grade points earned from grades made in high school classes. I wonder how high i can get my GPA to be.

Required Courses

Courses required for graduation. I have all my Required Courses.

Elective Courses

Courses the student may choose to take, that are not specified requirement for graduation. I wonder what kind of elective courses i can get.

End of Course Exam

Exam given by the State of Texas (STAAR) at the end of specified courses. Passing scores required for graduation. I hope i pass the End of Course Exam.

Scholarships

Financial aid that is awarded by merit or excellence in a variety of skill. These funds do not have to be paid back. I'm not interested into get a Scholarships

Student Loans

Financial aid that is borrowed from financial institutions. These funds must be paid back; usually with interest. I may get a Student Loans.

Financial Aid

Financial assistance for college or post-secondary training:scholarships, grants, waivers of fees, loans. I may need Financial Aid.

FAFSA

Free Application for Federal Student Aid; determines how much financial aid a student may receive I am not interested into a FAFSA but i may need it if i cant be successful.

IB Programme

International baccalaureate graduation program focusing on more rigorous courses and special projects. I may not go into the IB Programme.

Distinguished Achievement Plan

A 26-credit graduation plan including an extra year of foreign language, fewer elective credits, and special projects. I have a great Distinguished achievement plan for my high school year.

Prerequisite

A Requirement that must be fulfilled prior to taking a course. I need to take a Prerequisite

Recommended High School Program

A basic 26-credit graduation plan on which all AISD students start in 9th grade. I am setting up my Recommended High School Program.

Diploma

A certificate of completion for high school, often required by jobs and colleges to be hired or accepted. In my future i am gonna get my diploma.

Single Block

A course taking up one class period. I wonder what kind of classes I'm gonna have in my Single Block.

Dual Credit Course

A course that counts for high school credit and college credit at the same time. There is a fee for this course. I am not gonna do any Dual Credit Courses.

Double Blocked

A course that takes up 2 class periods, not just 1. I am not gonna take any Double Blocked Courses.

Work Study

A graduation plan in which college students alternate between paid employment on campus and taking classes. My brothers Work Study's are weird.

Early College High School (ECHS)

A graduation program earning all high school credits are 2-yr associates degree from partner college by graduation. I am not interested into a early college high school.

Course Description

A short description of the course topic and academic requirements.

Post Secondary

A time period after high school graduation; usually referring to training or education received after high school. I may need a Post-Secondary in high school.

EOC

Acronym, or initals, for STAAR End-of-course exams I may need to study for the EOC.

Course Code

An alphanumeric code used to identify a specific course. I wonder when my brothers will tell me about course code.

Course Planner

An organizational tool used to plan courses taken each high school year. I wonder what i should put on my Course Planner

Military

Of or related to the armed forces of a country: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard I am not interested into joining the military.

SAT- Scholastic Assessment Test;

Provided by the College Board, used to determine qualification to enter college. I wonder if i should do a SAT.

STAAR

State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness; a state test students must pass to graduate high school. I take the STAAR at the end of the year.

College Tuition

The cost of taking courses at a college university. I may get a loan for my college Tuition.

Credit/Unit

The worth of course. Students need 26 credits to graduate. I hope i get 26 credits so i can past high school.

Submit

To turn something into someone so that it can be considered or approved. EXAMPLE; submit a scholarship application. I cant wait to finish my courses to submit them.
