Cycle of Inquiry
STEP 4 of COI:
(CONVERGENT PLANNING) Plan for Intervention and Materials Literacy: Teachers develop plans to drive the curriculum forward-designing experiences where children's questions are just out of reach, their goals require a little something more to achieve, they are confounded somewhat, or their theories of the world are incomplete. This is where children are drawn to explore- when their interests are visible yet slightly challenged.
STEP 3 of COI:
(DIVERGENT PLANNING) Develop Action Questions: Teachers reflect on observations and interpretations of play. They create questions to learn more about the children. Questions they imagine the children have in mind and add to questions the children pose.
STEP 2 of COI
(DIVERGENT THINKING) Teachers reflect on observation data. Thinking about the child's mind: what they know, what they are thinking, why they are doing things.

Remember how we got through her class.....
;)
Where can teachers enter COI Process
Either with observation or setting up a provocation
May want to read over the article she co-wrote Name in "defintion"
Introducing the Cycle of Inquiry System: A Reflective Inquiry Practice for Early Childhood Teacher Development
STEP 6 of COI:
Reflective Evaluation: Teachers reflect on their implementation of their intervention (provocation) to consider how the children were engaged, evidence of learning, standards met during the experience.
STEP 5 of COI:
Set Up and Facilitate Play: Teachers facilitate in ways that allow children to do more- teachers to do less. They use a documentation record and photos or videos to capture observations of the set-up (provocation) and children engaged in play.
STEP 1 of Cycle Of Inquiry:
Teacher records observations of children engaged in play (photos, written, or videos)
Constructivist Theory Paper
We wrote a paper for this class summarizing Constructivist Theory- if you can't find yours I'll email you mine to read over. :)
