Born in North Carolina to a free mother and enslaved father. In either 1796 or 1797. (he was a free man since his mother was free)

What did David say in his Appeal?

In his Appeal, he advocated for people of African descent to have pride in themselves and change the negative conditions they faced including revolting against slave masters. He spoke out against colonization, believing America belonged to all who built it.

What was the Appeal considered?

It was considered one of the most, if not the most, radical anti-slavery document. A bounty was placed on his head because of it.
