DD Medium Duty Engine - Introduction - OEP61E

Right Side Components

Starter

The 29MT is a medium duty gear reduction starter and features an electrical soft-start engagement system. The soft-start system slowly rotates the pinion until it is properly engages to the ring gear before cranking preventing expensive ring gear damage.

EGR Cooler

The EGR cooler is a six plate tube and shell parallel flow style cooler. The hot exhaust gas and coolant flow in the same direction with the exhaust gas heat being reduced by the coolant through absorption.

EGR Delivery Pipe

The EGR delivery pipe connects the rear one piece dual turbo charger combination exhaust manifold to the EGR cooler.

Oil / Coolant Module

The Oil / Coolant module mounts to the right side of the block which contains the oil filter, oil cooler, water pump and dual thermostat housing.

Coolant Manifold (EGR cooler bracket)

The coolant manifold (EGR cooler bracket) incorporates risers which supply coolant into the bracket forcing it through the EGR cooler from back to front. The bracket mounts to the cylinder head and the EGR cooler is fastened to the bracket with three clamps. The manifold also provides a connection passage for the crankcase breather system.

HC Doser Valve (hydrocarbon doser valve)

The medium duty engine hydrocarbon doser valve operates in the same manner as the heavy duty engine. The valve is enclosed in a upper and lower heat shield package with an emergency drain pipe that routes fuel away from the turbo charger.

Oil Mist Separator

The oil mist separator, built into the rocker arm cover, is a passive system which reduces crankcase emission with no parts to maintain.

Crankcase Breather

The open crankcase breather system vapor exits the engine through the down tube mount on the left side of the engine.

Turbo Air Inlet

The single air inlet elbow supplies air volume to both compressor wheels.

Turbo Heat Shields (3 of them)

The turbo charger is enclosed by three heat shields. The heat shields protect the starter and vehicle side components from heat exposure damage. They also dampen engine operating noise.

Two Stage Turbo

The two stage turbo charger system can utilize one or both turbo to power the engine. The small turbo is the first stage and the larger turbo is the second stage which works to increase mass air flow of the engine based on performance demands.
