De Quervain's Tenosynovitis
*Tenosynovitis* is a termed used to describe inflammation of the synovial sheath surrounding the tendon. *Tenovaginitis* is a term used to describe inflammation of the sheaths anchoring tendons such as retinaculum. *De Quervain's* is pathology involving the common sheath of the extensor pollicis brevis and abductor pollicis longus. - Radial wrist pain
De Quervain's: Clinical Presentation
- Patients reports pain near the anatomical snuff box region. - Patients participate in activities combining wrist ulnar and radial deviation with thumb use (hammering, vacuuming). - Static test of thumb abduction and extension is strong and painful. - Symptom reproduction with Finkelstein's Test
De Quervain's: Treatment Intervention
- The physician may choose to perform a steroid injection to assist with reduction of local inflammation - Physical therapy would include task modification, soft tissue mobilization, and anti-inflammatory modalities.
