Drivers Ed: Chapter 3 Signaling, Backing, Proper use of Lanes, and Turning

Signals are required:

For two seconds before turning, two seconds before beginning any lane change, and anytime you pull away from a curb. Also when you slow down or stop, your break lights will accomplish this. In addition, most cars have emergency flasher system for use when your car is disabled on the highway.

What hand signal do you use to make a left turn?

What should you do when backing up?

Keep your vehicle on the right-hand side of the road and do not back unnecessarily long distances. Make sure nothing is behind you before you back up and do not interfere with other traffic on the highway. Always turn your head and look to the rear while backing up and don't back up on a freeway or interstate.

A good turn involves:

Knowing exactly where to turn before turning, signaling into proper lane, and if you cannot get into that proper lane 100 feet before your turn, don't turn. You also need to give the proper turn signal two seconds before, slowing down to a reasonable turning speed, and making the turn properly.

What hand signal do you use to turn right?

Point left arm straight up.

What hand signal do you use to slow down or stop?

Point your left arm down to the ground.
