Economics of the three colonial regions
New England Colonies (Massachusetts, Connecticut, RhodeIsland)
Economy depended on fishing, shipbuilding , skilled craftmanship (weaving, blacksmith, printing) and whaling. It relied more on manufacturing than farming. Trade was vital to this colony. There was less demand for slave labor due to poor farming conditions.
Middle Colonies ( New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware)
This colony depended on staple crops ( wheat, Barley,oats) which were crops that were always needed-grown on rich land - good climate. Southern Colonies( Virginia/Jamestown, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia)
This colony relied on Cash crops like tobacco, indigo and rice. Crops grew well in this colony region because there was a long growing season and a warm climate. Slave labor and indentured servants were needed to fill high demand for labor on large plantations.
