4 wartime conferences were in Teheran, Yalta, and Potsdam. These clarified war aims and stated that Germany would be divided. Nazi's would also be tried for war crimes. They also laid down the lines of the Cold War (Soviets influence would come into Europe, especially Poland: not so good.) Another Wartime conference was the 1944 Bretton Woods Conference. This established America's economic dominance as the dollar replaced the pound as the main currency in international transactions. The World Bank and IMF were also created. Overall, they became the financial leader of the global Capitalist order.

What changes, as a group, did African Americans experience during WWII?

Changes, as a group, that African Americans experienced during World War II were that a lot of them continued the Great Migration leaving the South for Northern and Western cities for opportunity. Civil Rights Movement happened during World War II as well. Executive Order 8802 came from this, banning discrimination in defense hiring creating a Fair Employment Practices Commission. This helped African- Americans get jobs in arms, factories, and shipyards. Lots ended up working in manufacturing with surprisingly, a ton of them being Women! Army and Navy started the integrate, but nothing was completely integrated yet.

How were Japanese Americans affected by the war AND what role did the USCT play in this?

Japanese Americans were affected by the war by being very highly discriminated against and all Japanese Descent people having to live in small barracks under a guard. The Supreme Court did not let anyone appeal their conviction to being sent there.

Mexican Americans were affected by the war by a dramatic increase of them coming to the US because of the Bracero program. Lots of them served in the armed forces during the war. There was also a riot against Mexicans though because some Americans were quite racist. Native Americans were affected by the war by also helping to serve as armed forces during the war.

So, what did the federal government take over AND why did people put up with it?

The Federal Government took over all of the industries and controlled the prices of items, wages, what to make etc. People put up with this because people were just happy to be working an employed after the Great Depression.

The goal of the UN was to ensure peace. The goal of the US role in the UN was to make sure it would be one of the 5 permanent members of the Security Council (US wanted to take an active and leading role in international affairs).

The significance of the Mystery Document was the it was FDR's "Four Freedoms" that was being discussed: Freedom of Speech Freedom of Worship Freedom from Want Freedom from Fear This was saying people should be free to do what they want and that the economy should be more equal, like full employment, adequate income, education, medical care, and housing for all.

How did WWII affect labor AND what was the federal government's role?

World War II affected labor by Union membership increasing from 9 million to 15 million because of the Union-friendly New Deal policies. The Federal government forced employers to accept labor unions so there would be no more strikes. This is so war production would not decrease.

How did WWII affect women?

World War II affected women by allowing them to work, becoming 1/3 of the workforce population. More married 30 year old women worked than the single ladies. This only lasted a little while though, because when the fighting was over, men came back to their jobs and women were fired, so they had to return to be in the food service, teachers, or domestics which were much lower paying jobs.

How did WWII change America?

World War II changed America by ending the Depression, transformed America's economy, cemented the new definition of liberalism established by the New Deal, and opened up new opportunities for diverse groups of Americans. Definitions of freedoms both at home and abroad were altered. (Freedom for people to choose their own government, equal opportunity and justice). Ideas pulled policy, NOT the other way around.

How did WWII affect the West Coast AND why didn't the South benefit similarly

World War II effected the West Coast by turning it into an industrial center because of defense spending. Seattle was now known for its shipping/aircraft manufacturing. 10% of the federal spending went to California. LA was the second largest manufacturing center. The South did not benefit similarly because most of the industrialization happened in cities (there were not that many large cities in the South: only 2 with 1/2 billion people)
