A factor that two or more numbers share

even number

A multiple of 2. a number that ends in 0,2,4,6,8.

common multiple

A multiple that two or more numbers share

divisor

A number that divides a given number leaving a zero remainder

prime factorization

A product of numbers, perhaps with some repetitions, resulting in the desired number A number can have many factorizations. Example 3X20 and 2X2X15 are two different factorizations of 60.

prime factorization

A product of prime numbers, perhaps with some repetitions, resulting in the desired number

odd number

A whole number that is not a multiple of 2

proper factor

All the factors of a number, except the number itself. The proper factors of 16 are 1,2,4,and 8.

factor

One of two or more whole numbers that are multiplied to get a product. Example 5X6 = 30. 5 and 6 are both factors of 30.

GCF

The greatest common factor that two or more numbers share. Example : 1,2,3 and 6 are common factors of 12 and 30, but 6 is the greatest common factor.

LCM

The least multiple that two or more numbers share

factor pair

Two whole numbers that are multiplied to get a product. Example 5,6 are a factor pair of 30 because 5X 6=30.

composite number

a number exactly divisible by at least one whole number other than 1 and itself; a number with more than two factors

prime number

a number with only two factors, a number whose only factors are 1 and itself, Remember 1 is not a prime number since it only has one factor!

multiple

the product (result) of multiplying two whole numbers Example: multiples of 3 are 3,6,9,12

product

the result or answer obtained by multiplying two numbers

exponent

the small raised number that tells you how many times a factor is used
