Double Boiler
Consists of a small saucepan that fits into a larger one, plus a lid.
Slow Cooker
Cooks food slowly for hours.
Rice Cooker
Cooks large amounts of rice and steams vegetables.
Cookie Sheet
Flat, rectangular pan with two or three open sides. Normally used for cookies or biscuits.
Electric Skillet
Fries, roasts, steams, and bakes.
Broiler/Grill
Grills food indoors and is portable and electric.
Tongs
Grip and lift bulky foods, such as broccoli spears.
Bread Knife
Has a serrated or saw tooth blade for slicing breads.
Vegetable Peeler
Has a swivel blade. Used to pare fruits and vegetables.
Boning Knife
Has a thin, angled blade, well suited for removing bones.
Saucepans
Have one long handle and sometimes a small handle on the opposite side.
Wire cooling rack
Holds baked products until cool or hot pans removed from the oven.
Slicing Knife
Large knife used for such foods as meat and poultry.
Chef's Knife
Large triangular blade is ideal for slicing, chopping, and dicing.
Pots
Larger and heavier than saucepans.
Turner
Lifts and turns flat foods, such as pancakes on a griddle or cookies on a cookie sheet.
Toaster Oven
Mostly heats or bakes small amounts of food.
Food Processor
Performs tasks similar to a blender but is more powerful and versatile.
Paring Knife
Removes a thin layer or peel from fruits and vegetables.
Utility Knife
Similar to a slicing knife but smaller. It cuts small foods, such as tomatoes and apples.
Skillets
Used for browning and frying foods.
Wire Whisk
Usually a balloon-shaped instrument made of wire loops that are held together by a handle.
Electric Mixer
blends, beats, and whips ingredients.
Toaster
browns bread and pastries on both sides at the same time.
