What is a connective?

A word or phrase that joins one thought to another and indicates the relationship between them.

What are Signposts?

Brief statements in the speech that lets the speaker know where they are at.

What are some signposts indicators?

"Be sure to keep in mind..." "Above all, you need to know..."

What are Internal Previews?

A statement in the speech that lets the audience know what the speaker is going to discuss next and is more detailed than a transition

What do internal summaries do?

Help clarify and reinforce ideas the speaker has just discussed.

What do internal previews do?

Lets the audience know the main point a speaker is going to discuss, and is often combined with transitions.

What are Internal Summaries?

Reminders of what the audience have just heard, reversals of Internal Previews.

What do transitions do?

State both the idea that the speaker is leaving from one idea and moving onto the next
