To add a Free Characteristic from the Navigation panel onto the BEx report
Click and drag the Free Characteristic between characteristics in the Rows menu, Columns menu or the column headings on the BEx report Drop the Free Characteristic when a bold line appears, as illustrated In the example, the user clicked and dragged FiscalMonth / Year from the Free Characteristics menu to the column heading and dropped Fiscal Month / Year to the right of the Fund Center column heading
To replace a report characteristic on the BEx report with a Free characteristic from the Navigation panel
Click and drag the Free Characteristic over the report column heading. Alternatively, you can click and drag the Free Characteristic over the characteristic in the Rows Menu or Columns menu Drop the Free Characteristic when the report column heading is highlighted
To remove a report characteristic:
Click and drag the report column heading to the Free Characteristics menu Drop the report column heading in the Free Characteristics menu when the bold X appears
BEx Report Variant - Access Variants
Click on the Available Variants: drop down box arrow button Select the variant. The Variable Entry screen will automatically populate with the variables associated with the variant This is an opportunity to alter your data values prior to running your query Click OK at the bottom of the Variable Entry screen to generate the report using the selected variant
BEx To save a variant
Click on the Save As... button on the Variable Entry screen to display the Save Variant screen Select the Description: text box Enter the name you want to assign to the Variant Click OK to save Variant
To select single and multiple variable data values
Click on the data value Add the value to the Selections list Click OK
To select a range of variable data values:
Click the Show tool: drop down text box and select Value ranges Select Sign: Select Operator: Select From: Select To: Select (click) Add button
The BEx report navigation panel consists of three menus
Columns menu - List of characteristics or Key Figures which form the report table columns Rows menu - List of characteristics or Key Figures which form the report table rows Free characteristics menu - List of characteristics not displayed on the report when initially generated
Select Variables
If you do not enter or select a value for all required variables, BI will return an error message and will not process the query.
Undo a modification in BEx report
Right Click on the BEx report Click Back on the menu Click Back One Navigation Step to undo the last action Click Back to Start to undo all modifications made in your current session
To swap the axes on the report table
Right click any data cell or column heading on the report table Select Change Drilldown -> Swap Axes from the menu
To sort data values on a BEx report table
Right click on the column data values to sort Select sort from the menu
Accessing a BEx report
Select (Click) the Business Intelligence tab. Select (Click) the role. Select (Click) the report. Select required and optional variables. Save variable field value selections as a Variant (Optional). Select (Click) OK to display the report.

You may directly enter selections into the Variable Entry screen or use the select values tool that allows you to display and select available choices
A BEx report variant is
a collection of saved variable data values selected by the user in the Variable Entry screen
Multiple data values must be separated by
a semi-colon and a space
A range of data values is separated by
a space, a dash and a space (e.g., Fiscal Year: 2009 - 2011
Select Values screen varies
based on the data values required for the variable
The asterisk (*) can
be used as a wildcard to search for data values with a similar format (e.g., *D10, results in all direct Funds beginning in FY10, or *A*, results in all automatic Funds regardless of appropriation or beginning year).
Free characteristics in a BEx report are
characteristics not displayed in the report when the report is initially generated
To validate the entries
click the Check button at the bottom of the variable entry screen
Free characteristics on BEx report are added onto the report by
clicking and dragging them from the Navigation panel to the Rows menu, Columns menu or the report column headings.

A BEx report provides
