poco

an American country rock band originally formed by Richie Furay and Jim Messina following the demise of Buffalo Springfield in 1968.[1] The title of their first album, Pickin' Up the Pieces, is a reference to the break-up of Buffalo Springfield. Throughout the years Poco has performed in various groupings, and is still active today.

Born Robert Allen Zimmerman on May 24th, 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota -1959-Dylan enrolls at the University of Minnesota. -1960- he leaves Minneapolis and travels to NY to see an ailing Woody Guthrie. -In 1961, Dylan arrives in NY where he begins playing small clubs and coffee houses. -Dylan's first professional appearance is at Gerdes Folk City playing for John Lee Hooker. -In November, Dylan is signed to a contract with CBS by producer John Hammond. He becomes known as "Hammond's Folly" 1962: Bob Dylan -The first album was done in a matter of hours and cost only $402. first aired in 8-5-1957 and played "theres a whole lot of shaking going on" American Bandstand set the trends for fashion, dance moves, music and nearly every aspect of teen culture.

jan and dean the chantays

formed "barons" with classmates from there high school in LA and split when Torrance went into the army. appeared on american bandstand and signed with gene autry's challenge records. recorded "old standard which hit #1 associated with the vocal "surf music" at first they weren't a band and hired local groups to record there own hit.

creedence clearwater revival

formed by John and Tom Fogerty, Doug Clifford and Stu Cook -One of the few post-Altamont bands to continue with hard rock music. -They were the exception among San Francisco bands because of their dedication to singles rather than albums. -Proud Mary -Fortunate Son music cut -"proud mary"

Inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame in 1997 of non performer.

the righteous brothers

musical duo of Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield. (non brothers) They recorded from 1963 through 1975, and continued to perform until Hatfield's death in 2003 achieved greatest success in the 1960's under the work of Phil Spector. both possessed exceptional vocal talent, with range, control and tone that helped them create a strong and distinctive duet sound and also to perform as soloists -you've lost that lovin' feeling and was one of the most successful pop singles of its time, most played song on the radio history Music Cut-"You've lost that lovin' feeling"

was a New York-based music publishing company, founded by Don Kirshner and Al Nevins in 1958. Aldon is regarded as having played a significant role in shaping the so-called "Brill Building Sound" in the late 1950s and 1960s

the acid tests

were a series of parties held by Ken Kesey in the San Francisco Bay Area during the mid 1960s, centered entirely around the use of, experimentation with, and advocacy of, the psychedelic drug LSD, also known as "acid." The name "Acid Test" was coined by Kesey, after the term "acid test" used by gold miners in the 1850s. He advertised the parties with posters that read, "Can YOU Pass The Acid Test?", and the name was later popularized in Tom Wolfe's 1968 book, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. Musical performances by the Grateful Dead were commonplace, along with black lights, strobe lights, and fluorescent paint. The Acid Tests are notable for their influence on the LSD-based counterculture of the San Francisco area and subsequent transition from the beat generation to the hippie movement

brian wilson

wrote "surfin in the USA" an American musician, best known as the leader and chief songwriter of the group The Beach Boys. Within the band, Wilson played bass and keyboards, also providing part-time lead vocals and, more often, backing vocals primary composer in The Beach Boys, he was also the band's main producer and arranger. Wilson's abused drugs and had a mental illness that created conflicts with the band. After years of treatment and recuperation, he began a solo career in 1988. good vibrations reached #1

jefferson airplane

folk traditions in the 20th century

There were two distinct folk song revivals in the 20th Century -Both grew out of an oral tradition of performance. -Songs were passed from one performer to another by performance. -Characteristics of songs varied greatly depending upon the region. -Performance traditions varied depending on geographical location. -Folk Musicologists - Charles Seeger, John and Alan Lomax. They catalogued folk music that was primarily vocal and came from the Scots-Irish tradition The second revival was led by the post-war Baby Boomers. -During the 1950's, most were entering their teens. -By the early 1960's, they were questioning everything about their country: the accumulation of wealth, material items and status. -Most were middle-class whites who turned their backs on traditional society. -College campuses became the center of this cultural change.

crosby stills nash and young

a folk rock supergroup made up of David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash, also known as Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (CSNY) when joined by occasional fourth member Neil Young. They are noted for their intricate vocal harmonies, often tumultuous interpersonal relationships, political activism, and lasting influence on music and culture.
