We see bananas as yellow because all of the other colors (wavelengths) are absorbed be the banana except the color yellow. The yellow light bounces of the banana, so we see it as yellow.

We see the color black because all of the colors (wavelengths) are absorbed by the object. This means that none of the colors bounce off of the object thus making it appear black.

We see the color white because all of the colors (wavelengths) bounce off of an object. Thus this makes us see objects as white.

When light passes from one medium to another, it slows down the speed of the light wave. Thus it makes us appear as if the object is bending.
