What is a stakeholder?

Stakeholder community

Everyone listed in your stakeholder registry is the Stake holder community. A group of people sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals. Unlike a neighborhood community where a common geography is the shared interest, stakeholder communities share an interest in your project.

Common way to categorize Stakeholders

Geography: Identify stakeholders by region. Organizationally: Identify stakeholders by department. Internal versus external: Identify stakeholders who are external to the project (or company) and internal to the project (or company). Sphere of influence: Who has authority over the budget? Resources? By impact: Who will be impacted by the project or its deliverables? This may include other projects competing for the same resources. Positive or negative: Which stakeholders support the project and outcomes? Which stakeholders are not in favor of the project or its outcomes?
