Hosted Applications
A Cloud Computing model in which a customer pays for and/or access the use of applications that run on a service provider's network.
Voucher Code
A code representing a specified amount of money that can be used on a shopping website to purchase goods or services.
Netbook
A computer that does not have lots of storage or fast processor.
Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs)
A course that is free of charge and available to large amounts of people over the internet.
Product Catalogue
A list of products that can be bought.
Rating
A measurement of how good or how popular something or someone is.
Auction
A public meeting or website where goods or services are sold to the person who offers the most money for them.
Balance Alert
A service that automatically informs a customer by text message or email, when the balance of their account reaches a specified amount.
Cloud
A term used to describe the internet when it is used to provide software or space for storing information, rather than relying on local storage.
Ad Server
A web server that stores, delivers and often tracks banner advertisements.
E-Ticket
An electronic version of a paper ticket.
Banner Advertisement
An image, animation or video that displays an advertisement for a product or service in a section of a web page.
Track
Collect and analyse data.
Transactional Data
Data that is sent between digital devices.
Application loading time
How long it takes an application to load.
Cookies
Information that a website leaves on a user's computer so that the website will recognise that user when they use it again.
Roaming
Occurs when users move their activities, especially long-running transactions, across devices.
Data Protection Issues
Problems with maintaining security of data and information.
Subscriber
Someone who signs up for a regular service.
Scalable
Something that is able to grow or shrink in order to meet demand, such as at busy times of day.
Balance
The amount of money in a bank account.
Assessment
The process of judging the value or quality of something, such as the quality of a student's work.
Encrypt
The process of protecting information by scrambling plain text into cipher text to prevent unauthorised access.
Referring website
The website previously visited, which linked the user to the website that they are currently visiting.
Third Party Cookies
These can be used to personalise user's online experience or to send targeted adverts that are more relevant to an individual user.
Session Cookies
They are only stored until a web page is close in the browser.
Persistent Cookies
They are used to record information about the user's use of the internet overtime. They can be used to keep a user logged into an online account so they do not have to log in every time they visit a website.
