The number used as a factor in an exponential expression.

Perfect Square

The product of an integer multiplied by itself

Domain

The set of all possible input values of a relation or function

Range

The set of output values of a relation or function (most of the time, the y-values)

Parent Function

The simplest of functions in a family of functions

Evaluate

To find the value of an expression

Simplify

To perform all indicated operations (leaves no parenthesis, no like terms, no negative exponents)

A mathematical sentence that contains less than, greater than, less than or equal to, greater than or equal to, or not equal

Substitution method

A method for solving systems of equations by solving and equation for one variable and substituting the resulting exression into the equation

Elimination method

A method used for solving a system of equations in which one variable is eliminated by adding or subtracting two equations of a system

Rational number

A number that can be written as a/b where a and b are integers, but b is not equal to 0 (terminating decimals and repeating decimals)

Irrational numbers

A number which can't be expressed as a ratio of two integers (pi, decimals that do not terminate or repeat, the square root of any number that is NOT a perfect square)

Exponent

A quantity representing the power to which a given number or expression is to be raised

System of equations

A set of two or more equations containing two or more variables

Point-slope form of a linear equation

An equation in the form y - y1 = m(x - x1)

Slope-intercept form of a linear equation

An equation in the form y=mx+b

Indirect Variation

An equation of the form y= k/x where there is a constant product

Direct Variation

An equation of the form y=kx where there is a constant ratio

Standard form of a linear equation

An equation of the form, Ax + By = C, where A, B, and C are integers and A is positive

Slope

Describes the steepness of a line; rise over run; the change in y over the change in x

Vertical angles

Each of the pairs of opposite angles made by 2 intersecting lines.

Integers

The set of whole numbers and their opposites

Horizontal Line

A line described by the equation y=b where b is the y-intercept

Whole numbers

Natural numbers ( counting numbers) and zero; 0, 1, 2, 3...

Absolute value

The distance a number is from zero on a numberline

Solution

The number or set of numbers that makes a mathematical statement true

Coefficient

The number that is being multipied against the varibale.

collinear points

points that lie on the same line; the slope between all points must be the same

X-intercept

the x-coordinate of a point where a graph crosses the x-axis (y is always 0 at this point)

Y-intercept

the y-coordinate of a point where a graph crosses the y-axis (x-value is always 0 at this point)

Supplementary Angles

2 or more angles that add up to 180 degrees

Complimentary Angles

2 or more angles that add up to 90 degrees

Parallel Lines

Lines whose slope is the same

Factors
