Advertising-based video on demand. Free content which has ads.
What is CTV/IPTV?
Connected TV/ Internet Protocol TV. These are TVs that connect to the internet.

DASH.
What does DASH stand for?
Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP.
What two adaptive bitrate formats are most commonly used?
HLS and DASH.
When sending videos to iOS, what adaptive bitrate (ABR) format should you use?
HLS.
What does HLS stand for?
HTTP Live Streaming.
What is linear OTT?
Live TV.
What devices can stream media?
Mobile devices, computers, browsers, apps, OTT devices, game platforms (which are also OTT devices), and smart TVs.
What are OTT devices?
Over-the-top devices that are not standard computers, phones, or tablets, such as Roku, Chromecast, Apple TV, Xbox, and Fire TV. They require a specific channel to play your stuff.
What does OTT mean?
Over-the-top. Initially, this meant that the device went "over" a cable box. With OTT, your content is delivered through the internet/cell, instead of traditional cable or broadcasting channels.
What is SVOD?
Subscription Video on Demand. If you have a paid subscription, you get streaming video content.
What is streaming media?
The delivery of audio/video files from a SERVER to a CLIENT, using either the Internet or a cellular data network.
What do adaptive bitrate formats (such as HLS and DASH) do? The formats specifically, not the video playback.
They dictate how video files are encoded and packaged.
What is TVOD?
Transactional Video on Demand. A pay-per-view model.
