"Religion is the opium(drug) of the people"
Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people. At the time opium was seen as a painkiller. I interpret this as Marx seeing religion as the thing the proletariat turns to to ease the pain of their everyday struggles. And like religion, painkillers do not stop a disease, they only ease the pain. The quotation originates from the introduction of Marx's work A Contribution to the Critique of Hegel's Philosophy of Right, which he started in 1843 but which was not published until after his death.
Surplus value
The big key to the reason why Marx said Capitalism was going to fall. The cost of a person is the wage it takes to keep the person alive therefore people must work more house due to competition and because those extra hours = the profit of the capitalists. Reason for crash: due to competition/ fast/ efficiancy people will be replacing workers with machines which means less money because the money came from exploiting the workers. Therefore, capitalism collapses.
