King Arthur

Loyalty can be *defined as strong feelings of support or allegiance*. The Celtic culture values loyalty as *"consistency, sticking to one's chosen position in relation to other people."*

*King Arthur is loyal to his country*. *Arthur and the Knights are loyal* to each other. *Queen Guinevere and Sir Lancelot lost Arthur's trust* and were *disloyal* to him when he found out about their relationship.

The Knights who sat at the round table became known as *the Knights of the Round Table*

*Sir Lancelot* was one of *King Arthur's knights*. He was *faithful and loyal* to both Arthur and Queen Guinevere. But *Lancelot and the Queen eventually fell in love with each other*, and they *snuck out together every night*.

He was *courteous* when he *allowed the Roman ambassadors (the enemies) to leave his castle without harm*

Arthur was *honorable* when he *refused to fight King Pellinore who was tired because Arthur believed it would be unfair.*

Chivalry *refers to the lifestyle and moral code which medieval knights followed*. Chivalry *included the values of honor, courage, and honesty*. *Courtesy and respect for women* are also characteristics.

King Arthur showed *respect for the Lady of the Lake*, and *in return, she gifted him a magical sword called the Excalibur*.

King Arthur said "For men to be men, they must first all be equal."

King Arthur was humble when he said this because even though he was King and had more power than the others, he thought that power and rank in position did not matter.

*King Uther died, no one knew had a son*. So Merlin (a wizard) used his magic to *set a sword in stone*, and *whoever pulled it out became the king*.

Out of all the people who tried, *only 15 year old Arthur succeeded*, and he became King of Britain.

Humility means *modesty* , *respect for others* , *equality* , and *meekness* .

The Round Table symbolizes equality. No seat is different from any other. King Arthur believed that all the men were equal, so every position must be equal. No man is more important than any other.

*Arthur soon found out*, and *they were caught*. *Lancelot ran away and became a hermit*, and *Guinevere was tried in court*. The *guards wanted to burn her to death*, but the court refused. Instead she became a *nun at Amesbury*

King Arthur was *born to Uther Pendragon and Igraine in the fifth century* which was during the Dark Ages.

During this time, King Uther's nation of Roman Britain was at *war against the Saxons*... *Arthur was given to Merlin because King Uther promised* that he will give Merlin his *first born child*. *Merlin gave Arthur to Sir Ector* who raised him as his own son.

The legend of King Arthur takes place in *Great Britain*, and it's part of the *Celtic culture*. The story takes place in the *fifth century* during the *Middle Ages, or the Medieval period*.

During this time, a war known as the *Battle of Badon* occurred. The war was fought *between the Britons (led by King Arthur) and Anglo-Saxons*. The Britons won.

Arthur set up his *Royal palace in Camelot*

He *married Princess Guinevere, whose father gave Arthur a* large *round table* as a wedding gift. *(cont. on next card->)*
