Colonialism

Colonialism is a policy or practice that acquires full or partial political control over a different country, occupying it with people, and then economically spreading it.

A policy of increasing the power/influence of a country by using military force and/or diplomacy.

If a country becomes less globalized, they will gain less ideas and wealth because innovations can come from different countries, also, trade will decrease which means that country will not gain as much wealth.

In North Korea, civilians are looked at by the state as a way to increase control, also there is very little free-will and their rights are very restricted. In South Korea, people have more rights and they are treated with respect. There is a conflict between North Korea and South Korea because the South believes the civilians should have more rights and the state should have less control.

Briefly explain why North Korea chose isolation from the rest of the world.

North Korea chose isolation instead of globalization because there would be a lower risk for invasions. Isolationism has caused them to be called "The Hermit Kingdom." They are no longer going by the "Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty," and they revealed that North Korea had nuclear weapons. North Korea is isolated because of political independence, self-reliance economically, and military autonomy based on the Juche Philosophy.

Identify and describe the government system and the economic system of modern North Korea.

North Korea's government system is communism with a totalitarianism regime. North Korea's economical system is socialism with a centralized economy where everything is controlled by the State. Communism is a form of socialism that makes everybody equal through popularity/liking, race, wealth and rights. Wealth is divided equally.

What advantages did South Korea see as a result of globalization?

South Korea made drastic improvements in communications, transportation, technology, industry and trade.

South Korea's globalization produced drastic improvements in communications and transportation technology. South Korea's globalization created "interdependence" and "integration" into the world economy.

South Korea's government system is a democracy that is constitutional. South Korea's economical system consists of state capitalism combined with centralized economic planning and government regulation. Mixed Capitalism is an economic system that is both capitalism and socialism. This mixed economic system allows some private freedom in the use of capital, but the government can still interfere with economic activities to achieve social objectives.

What is the historic and current role of the United States? Why does the US have this role(s)?

The United States controlled Korea from September 8th, 1945 to August 15th, 1948. The United States increased the size of Korea's military, provided more/more advanced weaponry, made more industry and provided and example of a constitutional democracy. The United States is an ally to South Korea and we are trying to limit the power and influence that North Korea has in the region, this is a strategy known as containment.

What disadvantages does modern North Korea see in globalization?

The disadvantages North Korea sees in globalization is that they wanted to be the main power, but if they were globalized, the people would see that there are better countries. North Korea also does not want the civilians to to leave the country, so they are isolated so the people will not hear of better countries or different influences.

What was the origin of the conflict between North and South Korea after WWII and during the Korean war?

The origin of the conflict between North Korea and South Korea was the Cold War. The conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union was also an important cause because that is the reason why Korea divided at the 38th Parallel.
