Patrick Henry

A patriot who is supporting American independence. I spoke to those not sure about freedom, and was very passionate about his work. He was a Virginian governor who served five times. "Give me liberty, or give me death".

Declaration of Independence

A document that was made during the start of the American Revolution, that declared the colonist wanted to be free and independent from Great Britain. It was written on

petition

A formal, written request made to an official person or organization, peaceful Ex: Sent one to the King George the 3rd.

Thomas Paine

A patriot that wrote a very encouraging pamphlet and common sense, that persuaded colonists, with a main idea that said they were nothing to the king or the British. The pamphlet said, without a doubt the British were hanging onto the colonist, keeping them from having a brighter life. His argument was that the colonists suffered with the British rule.

Continental Army

America's developed army during the American revolution, troops from all 13 colonies were a part of it. George Washington was elected by the continental congress to serve as their general. he organize and trained troops

George Washington

George was selected to be a General by the continental Congress. He was known from the French and Indian war, where he was known to be a good soldier. In the continental army, George's job was to organize and train trips. He would later be the first founding father.

Olive Branch Petition

In July 1775, petitions from the second continental congress was sent to King George. The petition got its name from John Adams, olive branch is an ancient symbol of peace. Colonists wanted to end the fight, but instead King George called the colonists traitors, disobeying their country.

Bunker Hill

In June 1775, militia men close to Boston plan to protect two hills. It was over the city, these hills were Bunker Hill and Breeds hill. The night was June 16, Israel, Putman, led hundreds of men on the top of the hill. The men's job was to build a fort on the top of the hill, in offense of the British. About 2000 British troops march. This ended in 1000 British troops and a half that amount Americans were killed or hurt in battle.

Independence Day

July 4,delegates came together and approved the final version of the Declaration of Independence. When signed the delegates took a pledge that said "our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor". This supported independence, and was a very serious pledge.

Second Continental Congress

On May 10, 1775, the second continental Congress met in Philadelphia. The Congress discussed organizing military efforts and created the continental army. This was because of the New England militia surrounding Boston at the time.

Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson, was it 33 year, old, lawyer, plantation, owner, and enslaver from Virginia. His job is to explain why the colonist want independence from Great Britain. He wrote the declaration of independence, although these rights in the declaration only included white males." unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

Ticonderoga

Ticonderoga was an old British fort located on the southern shore lake Champlain in New York. Months earlier militia men led by Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold seized the fort. The fort would end up useless to the militia, not even a gun in the fort worked.

Common Sense

Written in 1776, a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine that claimed the colonies had a right to be an independent nation (120,000 copies). Many colonist were scared of the idea of independence Thomas day and publish a fiery pamphlet titled common sense in which scoffed at the idea that Americans owed the king loyalty.
