A figure of speech that puts together opposite elements Example- that's my "adult" child poor thing still can't get himself into the real adult world
Solilogy
A kind of monologue, or an extended speech by one character
Pun
A pun is a joke based on the interplay of homophones Example- The tallest building in town is the library- it has thousands of stories
Personification
Apply human characteristics and create metaphors to describe a scene Example- The sun smiles
Dramatic foil
Character whose purpose is to accentuate or draw attention to the qualities of another character
Aside
Dramatic device in which a character speaks by the audience
Tragic flaw
Error that leads to a character's downfall
Foreshadowing
Gives the audience hints or signs about the future
Apostrophe
Refers to a speech or address to a person who Is not present
diction
Refers to a word choice and phrasing in any written or spoken text
monologue

paradox
a statement that contradicts itself, must be true/untrue at the same time
dramatic irony
opposite of what you expect Example- (Titanic) The ship is going down but the passengers think it's unsinkable
