Birth control pills contain the hormones estrogen and progesterone. Explain how taking a regular dose of estrogen and progesterone could have an effect on ovulation.

This will trick the body into thinking it is pregnant so that no egg cells will be released. Therefore, this will prevent menstrual cycle.

How is the level of estrogen related to ovulation?

In order to release the egg, the female must have high estrogen level

Lutheal Phase

Increase in estrogen and progesterone level stimulate cell growth and tissue development of the uterus.

What causes the lining of the uterus to thicken and then to be shed during the menstrual cycle?

Progesterone and estrogen

When do females produce gametes?

Follicle stage

Explain what happens to the thickness of the uterine lining during menstruation.

It increases then decreases.

What are the four hormones of the Menstrual Cycle?

LH, FSH, Progesterone, and Estrogen.

Menstruation Phase

Low concentrations of estrogen and progesterone cause the lining of the uterus to disintegrate and be released through the vagina.

What organ are estrogen and progesterone secreted by?

Ovaries

Ovulation Phase

Ovary releases mature egg into fallopian tube due to stimulation of LH and FSH hormones.

How could the maturation of an egg cell be stopped in the ovary?

Removing estrogen hormone.

What is Menstrual Cycle?

The cycle during which an egg develops and is released from an ovary and the uterus is prepa red to receive a fertilized egg.

How is the level of progesterone related to the thickness of the lining of the womb?

The higher the level of progesterone, the thicker the lining of the uterus

Follicle Phase

Egg matures within Ovary due to stimulation of FSH and LH hormone.

The reproductive cycle in females is regulated primarily by:

Estrogen and Progesterone

Identify the hormones that are secreted in large amounts prior to ovulation.

FSH, LH, and estrogen

What are the four stages of the Menstrual Cycle?

Follicle Phase, Menstruation, Ovulation, and Lutheal Stage.
