Carl Perkins
Class of 55. Sun after Elvis. Tennessee guitarist-vocalist who worked with Sam Phillips after Elvis left Sun Records. In one december session in 1955, perkins laid down a few songs including, "Honey, Don't". "Blue Suede Shoes". Blue Suede shoes was a hit on all three charts. r&b, pop, and country. This song was the first million-selling single for Sun Records. His career took a blow when he and his band got in a serious auto accident. So he wasn't able to capitalize on the success of this song, but still heavily influenced the Beatles and other covers.
Sam Phillips
Class of 55. Sun after Elvis. in 1950, worked for Memphis Recording Service. Specialized in recording black blues singers. In 1952, Philips decided to start his own label, Sun Records. He was a radio announcer, technician and eventually an amazing producer! He could spot talent. He helped discover Elvis Presley, but once Elvis left Sun Records to go to RCA, he moved on to working with more artists that would help develop Rockabilly style music including Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins.
