ACDC

AC/DC was founded as the name of this rock group after two group member's, Malcolm and Angus Young, sister, Margaret, saw the initials AC/DC on a sewing machine. ACDC is an abbreviation for electrical currents.

Group member Jones named the band while on the phone with Jazz News. The journalist asked the name of the band, Jones saw an old Mud Waters LP laying on the ground, and noticed a track titled Rollin' Stone, so he said the name of the band was The Rolling Stones.

Aerosmith

Group member Kramer would write the word Aerosmith all over classroom notebooks while he was in school. The name came into his head while listening to Harry Nilsson's album entitled Aerial Ballet.

Metallica

Group members Ulrich and Hetfield came up with the name as they met with a friend named Ron Quintana, who was brainstorming ideas for a fanzine. One of his ideas was Metallica, and the group decided to name their band that.

The Beatles

Rumor has it the group loved Buddy Holly and his group "the Crickets", so when they decided to make a band in 1960 they entitled it The Beatles as a play on that.

Led Zeppelin

The name originated from a humorous conversation between band members as they were talking about the chances of their careers going down like a led balloon.

Ozzy Osbourne

The nickname Ozzy was originally invented by classmates in primary school as a way to taunt John Michael Osbourne, Ozzy's real name. Instead of hating the name, he embraced it and later turned it into his stage name.
