The Danube River is historically and economically important. The Danube River runs from southern Germany's the Black Forest through Austria and into Eastern Europe. Then it empties into the Black Sea.

Dikes are earth and stone used to hold back water. For example, the Dutch have reclaimed land from the sea using dikes for protection.

Mistral is a strong north wind from the Alps. Foehns are dry winter winds. Foehns can trigger avalanches which are destructive masses of ice, snow, and rock that slide down a mountainside.

It is fertile because it is covered by loess, a sediment that is left by glaciers. For example, Belgium's soil is fertile because the amount of loess covering the ground.

Polders, Polders bring tons of acres of land for farming and settlement.
Give a description of the Loire River.
The Loire River runs North the west until it empties out into the Atlantic Ocean. The Loire is filled with silt, shallow waters, and changing volumes. This makes the Loire hard for Navigation.

The Northern European plain attracted farms because of the fertile soil, flat land, and numerous nearby rivers.

The Rhine river is the most important river of Northwestern Europe. It flows from the Swiss Alps through France, then Germany, then, through the Netherlands. It connects many industrial cities to the port of Rotterdam at the North Sea.

The Rhone river begins at the Swiss Alps then goes through Switzerland and France. It is the only river that flows directly into the Mediterranean Sea. This river is a big source of Hydroelectric power.
