One and Two Step Equations Practice
x + 7 = 12
Subtract 7 from both sides leaving you with x = 5
To undue addition you must.......
Subtract on BOTH sides of the equation
4x = 12
Divide 4 on both sides leaving you with x = 3
To undue multiplication you must....
Divide on BOTH sides of the equation
4x - 15 = 17
First you must add 15 to both sides to get 4x = 32 Then divide both sides by 4 and get x = 8
7 - x/2 = 23
First you must get rid of positive seven (be careful this does not say - 7 so to get rid of positive 7 you must subtract 7 from both sides to get -x/2 = 16 To get rid of the - and the 2 you must multiply both sides by -2 and get x = -32
9 + x/15 = 21
First you must get rid of the positive 9 by subtracting 9 from both sides to get x/15 = 12 Then you must get rid of 15 so you must multiply both sides by 15 to get x = 180
Two step equations mean you must.....
Get rid of the addition or subtraction first and then get rid of the multiplication or division second (by doing the opposite on both sides)
x/12 = 36
Multiply 12 on both sides leaving you with x = 432
To undue division you must.....
Multiply on BOTH sides of the equation
3x + 12 = 36
Subtract 12 from both sides and get 3x = 24 Then divide by 3 on both sides and get x = 8
x/-2 - 15 = 15
x = -15
34 - x = 15
x = 19
x/8 - 22 = 14
x = 288
18 = 6x
x = 3
20 = 3x + 2
x = 6
8x = 64
x = 8
98 = 12x + 2
x = 8
x - 6 = 78
x = 84
48 = x/13 - 17
x = 845
6x - 13 = 41
x = 9
x - 8 = 17
Add 8 to both sides leaving you with x = 25
To undue subtraction you must......
Add on BOTH sides of the equation
