Loss of hope; Pony Boy and Johnny were losing hope because they thought that they would never be able to get out of the church and have a normal life again
Cut hair
Loss of identity; pony boy and Johnny lost their identity of a greaser because they changed their hair
The country
Peaceful lifestyle; Pony boy always thought that the people that lived in the country were so peaceful and never had a hard life
Baloney
Pony's denial of Johnny's death; After johnnys death pony reveals he never liked baloney. The baloney reminds him of the week he spent with Johnny in the church and the fire that killed Johnny
Unloaded gun
Powerlessness; the unloaded gun means nothing because it was unloaded. It had no power. It will not harm anyone because it was not loaded
Burning church
Purification; purification is a symbol of fire and water. The burning church was also what purified Johnny and pony because they were saving lives in the fire which made up for them killing Bob
Rumble
Social clash; this is a social clash because the 2 sides of town are fighting against each other. They are fighting for their own rights

Unfulfilled dreams; Sodapops horse was one of the things that soda wanted to keep but his parents couldn't afford it so his dreams were crushed
Gold
Youth; Johnny told pony to stay gold because pony has been gold since he was little and Johnny didn't want him to change for the worse. You are only young once
