Multiplication and Division- one negative and one positive

-5x4= -20 (neg x pos= neg) -9/3= -3 (neg/pos= neg) 8x-7= -56 (pos x neg= neg) 12/-2= -6 (pos/neg= neg) When you multiply or divide one negative number by a positive number you will always get a negative number no matter how you do the problem.

Add two negative numbers

-6+-9= -15 (neg+ neg= neg) -11+-6= -17 (neg+ neg= neg) -7+-4= -11 (neg+ neg= neg) -8+-5= -13 (neg+ neg= neg) A negative plus a negative equals a higher negative.

Subtract two negatives

-6- -4= -2 (neg-neg= neg) -7- -8= -1 (neg-neg= pos) -9- -3= -6 (neg- neg= neg) -3- -7= 4 (neg-neg= pos) When subtracting negatives you still use the one with the highest absolute value, then you subtract.

Multiplication and Division- two negatives

-6x-9= 45 (neg x neg= pos) -12/-6= 2 (neg/neg= pos) -12/-4= 3 (neg/neg= pos) -12x-6= 72 (neg x neg= pos) When you multiply and divide negatives by each-other you will always get a positive number.

Add a negative number and a positive number

-9+6= -3 (neg+ pos= neg) -3+7= 4 (neg+ pos= pos) -14+7= -7 (neg+ pos= neg) -7+ 16= 9 (neg+ pos= pos) You take the number with the higher absolute values sign then subtract.

Subtract a positive from a negative

-9-7= -16 (neg- pos= neg) -43-8= -51 (neg- pos= neg) -7-8= -15 (neg- pos= neg) -6-12= -18 (neg- pos= neg) When you subtract a positive from a negative it is the same as adding negatives.

Subtract two positives

3-7= -4 (pos-pos= neg) 6-3= 3 (pos- pos= pos) 19-8= 8 (pos- pos= pos) 7-14= -14 (pos-pos= neg) When subtracting positive numbers there's two ways to do it. If the first number is larger then you just subtract. The second way to do to it is if the number on the right is a larger absolute value than you take its sign and just subtract.

Add two positive numbers

5+5=10 (pos+pos= pos) 20+6= 26 (pos+pos= pos) 15+ 3= 18 (pos+pos= pos) 7+8= 15 (pos+pos= pos) A positive plus a positive equals a positive.

Multiplication and Division- two positives

6x9= 45 ( pos x pos= pos) 12/6= 2 (pos/pos= pos) 12x6= 72 ( pos x pos= pos) 12/4= 3 (pos/pos= pos) When you multiply and divide positive numbers by each other your answer will always come out to be a positive number.

Subtract a negative from a positive

7-6= 1 (pos- neg= pos) 70-1= 69 (pos-neg= pos) 65-45= 20 (pos- neg= pos) 17- 9= 8 (pos- neg= pos) When subtracting a negative number from a positive number your answer will be either negative or positive, depending on which number has a higher absolute value.
