National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration U.S. Department of Transportation

The NHTSA sets and enforces safety performance standards for motor vehicles and motor vehicle equipment, gives grants to state and local governments to enable them to conduct effective local highway safety programs, sets and enforces fuel economy standards, and conducts research on driver behavior and traffic safety, among other responsibilities.

U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)

The USDA supports production of agriculture by ensuring a safe, affordable, nutritious, and accessible food supply ; caring for agricultural, forest, and range lands; supporting sound development of rural communities; providing economic opportunities for farm and rural residents; expanding global markets for agricultural and forest products and services; and working to reduce hunger in America and throughout the world.

World Health Organization (WHO)

The primary role of WHO is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations' system. The main areas of work include health systems; promoting health through the life-course; communicable and noncommunicable diseases; corporate services; preparedness, surveillance, and response.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)

HHS, also known as the Health Department, is a cabinet-level department of the U.S. federal government with the goal of protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services. HHS is the umbrella agency for several others including the CDC, the NIH, and the FDA.

National Institute of Health (NIH)

A part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, NIH is the largest biomedical research agency in the world. The NIH is made up of 27 different components called Institutes and Centers.

American Lung Association (ALA)

Founded in 1904 to fight tuberculosis, ALA is a voluntary health organization that now fights lung disease in all its forms, with special emphasis on asthma, tobacco control, and environmental health.

American Cancer Society (ACS)

The ACS is dedicated to helping persons who face cancer. The ACS Supports research, patient services, early detection, treatment and education.

American Diabetes Association (ADA)

The ADA is the nation's leading nonprofit health organization providing diabetes research, information, and advocacy.

American Heart Association (AHA)

The AHA is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke. The AHA has 12 affiliate offices that cover the U.S. It relies on its many volunteers and donors to help spread accurate, reliable health information.

American Medical Association (AMA)

The AMA is the national professional organization for all physicians and an advocate for physicians and their patients. The AMA's main focus is on being an essential force for progress in improving the nation's health through public health initiatives, legislation, and market place interventions.

American Psychological Association (APA)

The APA is a scientific and professional organization that represents psychology in the U.S. The APA focuses on research and professional development.

American Red Cross (ARC)

The ARC provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. The organization gives health and safety training to the public, provides emergency social services to U.S. military members and their families, and is responsible for half the nation's blood supply and blood products.

Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition

The CFSAN carries out the mission of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). CFSAN is responsible for ensuring the nation's food supply is safe, sanitary, wholesome, and honestly labeled and that cosmetic products are safe and honestly labeled.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is recognized as the lead federal agency for protecting the health and safety of people at home and abroad, providing credible information to enhance health decisions, and promoting health through strong partnerships.
