Messiah is the Hebrew word fro "anointed one." The Greek equivalent is Christos. Jesus is the Christ and Messiah because he is the anointed one.

One messianic prophecy from the Old Testament was from Ezekiel, who was fulfilled in Christ because Ezekiel prophesies that God will act as a Good Shepard. Then, in the Gospel of John, Christ declares he is the Good Shepard. Another prophecy from the Old Testament was from Zechariah, who was fulfilled in Christ because he prophesied about a victorious king, and Jesus is the promised King and Savior.
