How do animals get rid of the water produced?

breathing, sweating, and peeing

photosynthesis and respiration

during photosynthesis, plants use carbon dioxide and release oxygen. then during respiration organisms use oxygen and release carbon dioxide.

Why does lactic acid fermentation happen?

during physical activity, your muscles use up the oxygen you breathe faster then your lungs can replace it. the build up of lactic fermentation is why you might feel sore after you excersising.

What happens during respiration?

during respiration the cells break down food molecules (like sugar) and release the energy stored in the food.

How does an animal get oxygen?

from breathing air.

Where does an animal get glucose from?

from the food it eats

In what part of the animal cell does respiration mainly occur?

in the mitochondria

stage 2 of respiration cont.

the CO2 and water diffuse out of the cell and leaves the body through the process of breathing or through the stomata of leaves.

respiration

the process by which cells get energy from glucose. plants and animals respire. this is happening continuously.

fermentation

the process that provides energy for cells without using oxygen

What does an animal get out of the process of respiration? How does it use the energy that is released?

it needs to get energy from respiration. it uses the energy released from the food to live, grow, and reproduce.

lactic acid fermentation

occurs in muscle cells during rigorous activity when the cells do not have enough oxygen so fermentation occurs and latic acid is produced

besides sugar, what is required for cellular respiraton to occur?

oxygen is required

alcoholic fermentation

produces alcohol, carbon dioxide, and a small amount of energy

Describe what happens when an animal eats a plant.

when an animal eats the roots, fruits, leaves, and stems of a plant, the stored energy is released for use though respiration

Why is alcoholic fermentation important to bakers and brewers?

bakers: because yeast fermenting in dough causes it to rise. brewers: because fermentation makes the alcohol and carbon dioxide that makes beverages alcoholic and bubbly.

stage one of respiration

in the cytoplasm: glucose is broken down into smaller pieces in the cytoplasm. oxygen is not involved. only small amount of energy is released

stage 2 of respiration

in the mitochondria: small molecules are broken down even more into smaller molecules. a chemical reaction takes place that turns the oxygen and sugar into carbon dioxide and water as well as releases a big amount of energy

breathing vs. respiration

respiration is not breathing! but oxygen is necessary for respiration to take place

respiration equation

C6-H12-O6 + 6O2 --→ 6CO2 + 6H20 + Energy
