Flat affect Schizophrenia
Flat affect: A severe reduction in emotional expressiveness. People with depression and schizophrenia often show flat affect. A person with schizophrenia may not show the signs of normal emotion, perhaps may speak in a monotonous voice, have diminished facial expressions, and appear extremely apathetic. Also known as blunted affect.
Risk factors Of schizophrenia
Having a family history of schizophrenia Exposure to viruses, toxins or malnutrition while in the womb, particularly in the first and second trimesters Stressful life circumstances Older paternal age Taking psychoactive drugs during adolescence and young adulthood
Acute schizophrenia
Schizophrenia that is not hereditary; can occur at any time in life; in response to emotionally traumatic event; not responsive to medication; once an individual recovers they will not relapse
Positive symptoms of schizophrenia
The perceptual experiences associated with schizophrenia, including hallucinations, delusional thinking, and disorganized thought and speech.
Negative symptoms of schizophrenia
Things that are not there that should be there in schizophrenics - missing emotion, Flat affect - flat emotions, Low motivation and drive, withdrawal from others, labored speech
Schizophrenia

Brain abnormalities
decrease in total volume of brain tissue, enlarged ventricles, decreased size of hippocampous, amygdada and thalmus (temperol lobes)
Disorganized
disorganized speech or behavior, or flat or inappropriate emotion.
Delusions
false beliefs often of persecution or grandeur that may accompany psychotic disorders.
Hallucination
illusory perception a common symptom of severe mental disorder
Catatonic
immobility or excessive purple restless movement, extreme negativism, and/or Parrotlike repetition of another's speech or movements.
Genetic predisposition
inborn tendencies (for example, a tendency to commit deviant acts)

jumble of incoherent speech as sometimes heard in schizophrenia

many and varied symptoms.
Paranoid
preoccupation patient with delusions or hallucinations, often with themes of persecution or grandiosity.
Positive schizophrenia
symptoms most individuals do not normally experience but are present in schizophrenia. delusions, auditory hallucinations, and thought disorder
Residual
withdrawal, after hallucinations and delusions have disappeared.
