Scientific method
Explain a controlled experiment?
A controlled experiment allows researchers to determine cause and effect between variables.
Define hypothesis?
A possible explanation or answer to a question; uses the word affect
Define scientific method?
A series of steps used to answer a question or solve a problem
Explain the difference between a theory and a law?
A theory is what you think and what is explained to be right. The theory has not been proven when the law has been proved and signed.
Define prediction?
A thing predicted a forecast
Explain the difference between an independent and dependent variable.?
Although the variations of these two variables depend on something else in the real sense, the difference is what they depend on. A dependent variable depends on an independent variable, while an independent variable depends on external manipulation.
Why is it important to do an experiment more than once? Should a scientist have a large or small number of subjects in an experiment? Why?
Experiment needs to be done more than once due to the potential for variation, meaning some of the plants could have had disease or other outside variable that spoiled the experiment unbeknownst to the scientist conducting the experiment.
What do scientists do when they draw a conclusion?
Explaining why it was right. And have a hypothesis and to product but don't get upset if your hypnosis is wrong because most of the time it is.Drawing a conclusion means making a statement summing up what you have learned from an experiment. When the scientists have done it over and over and made a conclusion that was the answer.
Identify parts of the scientific method when presented with a description of an experiment. This means write out each step and tell me what happens in that step?
First you make an observation. Then you ask a question. Then you form a hypothesis about the experiment. Then you make a prediction on what you think will happen. After that you test the prediction. You use the results to make a new hypothesis or prediction. Finally you make a conclusion after you have tested it more than once.
Define variable?
Not consistent or having a fixed pattern; liable to change
What happens during the communication step of the Scientific Method?
The first step of the scientific method involves making an observation about something that interests you. This is very important if you are doing a science project because you want your project to be focused on something that will hold your attention. Also that you ask questions and observations about the experiment.
What is the difference between a control group and an experimental group?
The two groups are almost identical, and there is no difference in composition. • However, the subjects in the experimental group are exposed to the variable being tested whereas the subjects in the control group remain away from this variable.
How do scientists make observations?
They ask questions
How do scientists gather information in step 1- state a problem?
They make observations and ask questions
What are scientists doing when they perform experiments?
When conducting an experiment, it is important to follow the five basic steps of the scientific method: Ask a question that can be tested. Design a study and collect data. Analyze results and reach conclusions. Share the results with the scientific community. Replicate the results.
