Secondary storage is external storage devices and media that are not constantly accessible by a computer system. Examples include external hard drives, portable flash drives, CDs, and memory sticks. These devices and media must be either plugged in or inserted into a computer in order to be accessed by the system

optical storage

an optical drive uses reflected light to read data. the optical disks surface is covered with tiny dents or pits and flat spots which cause light to be reflected differently. when the light reflects from a pit it represents a 0 and when it reflects from a flat the computer reads a 1

solid-state disk

solid state disks record data using special transistors that retain their state even when there is no power to them. Because there is no moving actuator arm like on a HDD, they are faster in reading and, in some cases, writing data. They are also more rugged so are not easily damaged when dropped.

memory stick

usb flash drives uses the same technologyb as solid state drives. They are more compact and operate faster than an external magnetic drive due to their lack of moving parts.flash drives are widely used to transport files and back up data from computer to computer

Magnetic storage

uses moving read and write heads that contain electromagnets. These create a magnetic charge in the disks surface which contains iron particles that can be given magnetic charge in one of two directions. each magnettic particles dirction represents 0 or 1.
