What is a complex sentence?
A complex sentence includes a dependent clause (can not stand on its own as a complete sentence.) and at least one independent clause (a complete sentence). Example: Even though I am tired, I still want to play the game. I still want to play the game even though I am tired.
What is a compound sentence?
A compound sentence contains two or more simple sentences that are joined together using a coordinating conjunction (and, or, for, yet, so, but). Example: I have to stay in from recess, so I can't play kickball with you.
What is a dependent clause?
A dependent clause cannot stand alone as a complete sentence. A dependent clause begins with a subordinating conjunction like after, although, as, because, before, even though, if, since, though, unless, until, when, whenever, whereas, wherever, while Example: while she go ready for school since you already fed the cat before we turned the corner
